When I was a missionary serving in Oakland, California, there was a family history center on Temple Hill. One of the tools we created was called, "The Gift of Family History". It entailed us using family history as our "pitch" at the door. Asking questions about where people come from, or whether they know much about their family heritage. Then, we offered them a 3 to 5 gen card to fill out for us (either then or we set up a follow up appointment) then we would take that card to the Family History Center and consultants there would help create a book with family information, build a tree, insert resource information, etc. and then we the missionaries would return again to deliver the book to the investigator/potential investigator and further discuss family history and how it could bless their lives. We had a number of conversions from these types of interactions and introductions to family history.

Dear Patricia,
Our Mission President had us teach 144 Missionaries about using Family History at the door. We trained them in writing out a pedigree and FGS for themselves, then how to use the Wiki to find more information. We taught them about the creation of records and then how to add information onto FSFT.. However, most of the missionaries who were successful bought their contacts to the FHC for one on one training. We supplied them with a pamphlet that had a pedigree chart and a FGS and on the back was information on how to get started. We sure were busy after that for a number of months. The Mission President was very happy and then took our demonstration and gave a presentation to all the Country towns in outlying New South Wales.
Hope that helps

Amber, I love your idea. Do you any printed material that went with the "The Gift of Family History" I can use to show the missionaries in your area?

Sorry, I'd been helping my non-member step-sister and was still logged in under her credentials, "LynCrosby."

Could you share some of the "family history at the door" ideas that you gave those missionaries? That would be awesome!
