REVOLUTIONARY WAR ERA FAMILY BIBLES - You Must See!
[ click "expand post" to see entire submission ]
In the years after the American Revolutionary War – legislation was passed to provide pensions to those men who had served in the conflict and/or their widows and children.
As part of the application process some families submitted Bible records to affirm the relationships of those involved.
These bible records are actually still on file at the National Archives
Many of the bible records – according to the traditions and culture of the times – were recorded in very beautiful and highly decorative and custom format – many in what is called FRAKTUR form.
You can find copies of many of these on this page at the National Archives

I ran across this when I researched the mother of my Grandfather John
Yancey. I got copies of the Civil War Records. She had cut out the birth listings of the children from the family Bible of Matthew Bateman.

I looked at the website. I am really amazed at artwork. I have a
Ross Family Bible where the names were penned in lovely script and
decorated with colored inks. But it does not compare to these.
