Can anyone help with this photo?
I have been asking relatives in Norway if anyone has a photo of my great grandfather who died in 1894. They have found this photo that is not identified and wonder if it could be him. Can anyone give an opinion of the time period of the photo and if the child is a boy or girl and about what age they would be. A lot to ask but I am hoping it could be him. He looks very much like my grandfather when he was older. Thank you for your help. My relatives were poor country folk so the clothing might be too expensive for them to have had.

I think this picture was taken around the early 20th century since that is when moustaches seem to have been a fad, however, I am no expert. There is a book called Forensic Genealogy by Colleen M. Fitzpatrick that teaches how to figure out when a photograph was most likely taken based on clues in it and I would recommend reading that. If you have the original of this photo, that will be invaluable to you as you try to figure this out.

Thank you. I do not have the original, just an e-mail of it. I will see if I can locate the book. Interesting about mustaches, I don't expect that my remote family was cutting edge in style so it seems unlikely to be mine but since a family member in the area had it perhaps it was Grandpa's brother at a later time.

It could also be from around 1910 as it looks like a photoe I have of relatives born around 1910. LIttle boys were often dressed in dresses as was the custom back then.

Thank you Liv. I imagine the lace color on the child would be an indicator as would the fancy tie on what I might assume is the grandfather but could be the father. Thank you for your input.
