Koseki Help
My name is Darryl Dobashi, I am a 4th generation Japanese American. I know my great grandfather arrived in Hawaii in 1905 and according to the records he is from Yamanashi Ken.My question is what else can I do to fined the village or town in Yamanashi he is from?

Darryl - I live in Sacramento, California and I have been helping many Japanese-Americans obtain their family register records (koseki/joseki) that allow them to find ancestors that go back 2-4 generations before their issei immigrant ancestors. I have taught several family history classes at Christian and Buddhist churches established by Japanese immigrants.
As you indicated, the key is identifying the village that they are from. If the records identify that village, the process for requesting koseki/joseki records is extremely easy. As you read STEP-1, your ancestor must be recorded on Immigration card managed by the office. You mail first and if the office reply you that they have the record, then you call the office to pay fee by your credit card.
