I am just starting some Norwegian research, I have tried looking a few places and I don't really understand the Norwegian Archives(at least not yet). What or how is the best place to look for early Norwegian records dating from 1550 - 1650?

We are looking for a line we believe originated in Norway and then later immigrated to western Germany in the early 1600s. The surname our family is looking for is Opp. I do pretty well with German and Danish records, but I am just starting out on Norwegian. Any suggestions?

The FamilySearch wiki for Norway gives a lot of information that can help you. This link will help you with record search strategy 1500-1813. https://www.familysearch.org/wiki/en/Norway_Birth_Record_Search_Strategy_1500-1813 I always like to look in the FamilySearch tree for my initial study because someone may have already found the family I am seeking. Then I evaluate the sources or lack there of to determine the accuracy of what they have shared.
