What is standardized place name for Aberystwyth, Ceredigion, Wales?

Ceredigion corresponds to Cardiganshire. In the 1974 reorganisation of the UK counties, Cardiganshire disappeared into the new county of Dyfed. In 1996, it appears that they dispensed with Dyfed for administrative purposes, going to Ceredigion for Aberystwyth and that area. Dyfed still has some usage for ceremonial and other odd purposes.

If using that place name for a 1820 birth, which county name would one use?

1820 - Cardiganshire.

 

I have to say that I don't agree with the FS Standard Places which have

Aberystwyth, Cardiganshire, Wales, United Kingdom

for 1801 to today

And

Aberystwyth, Dyfed, Wales, United Kingdom

for 1974-1996. Why the overlap?

 

Surely it's

Aberystwyth, Cardiganshire, Wales, United Kingdom

for 1801 to 1974

 

Aberystwyth, Dyfed, Wales, United Kingdom

for 1974-1996

 

Aberystwyth, Ceredigion, Wales, United Kingdom

for 1996 to today?

 

(Ceredigion is a county in FS Standard Places! But it only has 4 places in it!!)
