Understanding a marriage record from County Cavan
Attached is a marriage record from the Denn Parish in County Cavan, Ireland. About the 3rd entry from the top it has the digit 9 by "Drumliff", the townland. It states as far as I can tell "A certificate to Mathew Toher for Ba???". The other entries below seem to state marriages, but very faintly at the bottom are more "certificates" although I cannot make them out. Would this be a certificate to marry or to certify that he is married? Any ideas? Thanks for your help. https://registers.nli.ie/registers/vtls000634845#page/42/mode/1up

Does that say "Both", referring to both bride and groom?

Yes, Mike, I think you're right that is "for both", but what is the certificate the doc refers to? Certificate that they were married? Certificate that they are to be married? I am unfamiliar with this kind of record. Any ideas?

@Ali.M. Pili I dont think its a "9". I think its a poorly scribed "D". The right hand side of the letter is very feint. The next letter is an "r" which nearly appears to be uppercase due to its size, but if you compare it to other lowercase "r"s it is similar although larger.
re the certificates - that's a good one. I've never seen that before, and the very part we need to try to understand it is on the right and just about illegible. There doesn't seem to be a full one you can compare it against. Ancestry transcriptions for this record don't really add anything to the puzzle although it may be worth doing a long comparison name by name. There is the 1821census for Cavan and Drumliff is on it; I don't know if that will help your quest.
As an afterthought if it was a marriage there would be a copy of the cert on irishgenealogy.ie. But there doesnt seem to be one.
Finally a man who MIGHT know; the parish priest - worth a try
