As an aside ...
Question: Have you examined any OTHER Websites ... for any thoughts/guidance?
[ eg. "Ancestry_com"; "MyHeitage_com"; "WikiTree_com"; ETC; Etc; etc ]
Mind you, just for some direction, not that they will be correct ...
Often, they are not correct; but, occasionally, they are good value ...
Just a thought.

Thank you Brett! Presently I have Ancestry Discovery Plus...had World Deluxe. There are records of Davidsons from Dalkeith in Family Search but my question is which data corresponds to my direct descendants. All info found from Dalkeith related to Davidsons is assumption. Canadian records list the 1765 arrival and marriage of Thomas Davidson in Canada. It mentions he was from Dalkeith and names his parents. Otherwise, there is no trace...no one seems to have found further data beyond his arrival in Quebec Canada...nothing on wiki ...ancestry...etc. My hope is that a Scottish ancestor related to Thomas, Robert Davidson, Elspeth Richa sees my inquiry and might shed some light. It is a chance in a million but....

This does not extend the line but gives clarification on Thomas's birthplace. FamilySearch Historical Records lists Thomas Davidson, son of Robert Davidson and Elspeth Richa, christened 2 July 1737 in Carrington, Midlothian, Scotland. Dalkeith is also in Midlothian, north of Carrington. A parent search (where the first name of the child is removed and the father's and mother's names are added) reveals four other children born to Robert and Elspeth in Carrington between 1732 and 1742. The originals can be viewed only at the Family History Library or a family history center but can be purchased at ScotlandsPeople.gov.uk to see if there are any more clues to Robert and Elspeth.
Unfortunately, a marriage search for Robert Davidson and Elspeth Richa in Midlothian yields nothing. It was not uncommon for there to be no record of a marriage, however. There are two possible christenings in Peebles for your Elspeth. Bessie Richa, daughter of James Richa, christened 23 February 1707, and Elspith Richa, daughter of William Richa, christened 12 May 1717. You'd have to be careful to make sure other evidence corresponds with these before accepting one of them as your ancestor, especially since they were both born in Peebles, not Midlothian. But if Elspeth and Robert were following the traditional Scottish naming pattern, I would check out Elspith the daughter of William first.
Hope that helps a little.

Thank you so much for taking the time to analyse this! I had verified the same options and chose James Richa because of Elspeth's birth 1707. I found several records of children for Robert Davidson and Elspeth Richa...the 1st Jealie born in Cockpen 1727, John born in Penicuik 1730 and the rest born in Carrington...William 1733, Thomas 1737, Margaret 1740 and Robert 1742. The first two older children may belong to other parents who had the same names...impossible to know.
As for James Richa...none of my ancestors carry the name James which seems contrary to Scottish traditions. The Canadian record states as follows = Thomas born in 1740 in Dalkeith, father Robert Davidson, mother Elizabeth Richer and not Richa which was probably misunderstood due to Thomas's Scottish accent. Thank you again for your effort! You are very kind!!😊

Wedding usually happened in the area the bride came from . They were more likely to go home to be married. I personally travelled from England to be married at home in Scotland.
