Hi all,
Some months back I joined this group hoping I would be successful in locating my bio paternal Grandparents because my father was adopted. I wasn’t able to gain any traction in this group though Carolyn tried to help were she could. Having said that I've discovered a new free tool on the DNA Painter website called WATO an acronym for What Are The Odd’s. There is a video on the site explaining how to use the tool. It utilizes your DNA matches and builds a tree based on the most recent common ancestor. I had enough info with my DNA matches through Ancestry to use the tool. I was able to determine the most likely candidates for my grandparents. I wanted to pass along this valuable info before I leave this group.
Blessings,
Diane

Hi X24mom and Rene Greer Williams,
Thank you for the kindness of your reply’s!
FYI for a bit more helpful info. The WATO Tool What are the Odds? Beta v2 is different than the DNA Painter tool. If you click on this link https://dnapainter.com/tools
it should take you to the help page. Scroll down to the (Identify Unknown Parent or Ancestor) module and click on it or this link. https://familytreewebinars.com/download.php?webinar_id=1288
Which will open up an instructional video on how to use the WATO beta v2 tool! Hope this helps!

WATO is a game changer. I highly recommend it.
I think our original poster has left the group, but for others who are looking for answers:
Carolynn showed me how to use the beta tool too. X24mom is spot on with the url.
Using WATO, I confirmed a completely unexpected family. Things were extremely rocky at first after I shared with 2 women I'd been working with for quite a while. We all expected that we were cousins. It was a shock to all of us. They had another sister test and we compared results from all 3 major companies. We ARE sisters and their Dad IS my father. We've all recovered now and are slowly building relationships.
I've used it now to confirm the great grandfather 5 of us sisters and cousins in a different line have been seeking. WATO helped us solve a 99 year mystery as we tried our various hypotheses.
All that said, you have to do some homework first. You need to be able to plug in a very simple family tree and to make your hypothesis as to who you think is the sought-after relationship.
