Does anyone have or know where to find on the internet a map showing the boundaries of Eid Kommune i
I've been searching for one and all I can find is the one on the Wikipedia article about it at:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Eid,_Hordaland
It was created in 1838 out of Eid parish then merged in 1855 with Fjelberg kommune. I can tell from the Wikipedia illustration that it included the southern portion of Huglo, the northern part of Halsnøy, and some of the mainland east of Halsnøy. The Huglo part is easy to figure out because it would have been the same as the later boundary between Stord kommune and Fjelberg Kommune. The boundary on Halsøy is probably the same as it still is for Eid parish today but I would like to confirm that and would like to figure out what the boundary on the mainland was.

You may already be aware that http://norwayparishes.com/ has maps for Norwegian parishes. It doesn't show farm boundaries, however. You can select "Satelite Imagery" under the "Base Layers" for a modern-day view of places. If you compare your map that you linked above to the norwayparishes map, you may be able to get a clearer view of the boundaries.

Thanks for the answer. Unfortunately, the Norway Parishes site only has current parish boundaries. So Eid on that map does not include the portion that is now in Stord parish or the portion now in Holmedal parish. It's the section in Holmedal that I am most interested in. But you have given me an idea. If the Wikipedia map is accurate, and I have to say it looks a little to artistic to trust that it is not just an approximation, then if I download it and take a screen shot from a map of the area that does show all the farms, layer them, adjust scale and opacity, that should give me pretty close to what I am looking for.

You may already have tried Bygdebok for Eid and Fjelberg sokn. Since it lists the farms, they may also have some maps showing the location and bounderies of the parishes.

I don’t know if this is what you’re looking for.

Also here is a google search. If you click on the word images at the top you can see more.

Thanks for your suggestion. However, Eid and Fjelberg sokn, by the time bygdebok were written were both in Kvinnherad and are covered in volume 5. There is a map, but the boundaries are again the modern ones, not the pre-1855 boundaries.

Thanks for the suggestions. Unfortunately, what I'm looking for doesn't seem to be included.

You’re welcome. I’m sorry. I hope you can find something.

You can also go to norwayparishes.com, select the county and the parish. It clearly shows the parish boundaries. The advantage of this site is that you can find your ancestor's farm location within the parish boundaries.

Thanks for the suggestion. Norway Parishes is a great site, but it only shows the current boundaries. I'm trying to get the pre-1855 boundary.
