Help with Swedish birth record
Am I correct that the record below (Bredaryd, Jönköping, C: 1,1688-1757, p. 51) says Pahr was the son of the soldier Måns?
Does Måns have a surname or a wife's name?
Also, I cannot seem to find an appropriate place name ( I think I must be misinterpreting some of the letters- even though I have checked it against http://swedishgenealogyguide.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/12/Swedish-Gothic-Alphabet-Samples.pdf_) Thank you!

Hi @DebbieRose DebbieRose , you are correct that this is the birth and christening record of Pähr son of soldier Måns. The mother's first name is Karin (split between the first and second lines) and the place is "Hambra" aka "Hamra". He was christened at the same time (as the birth). No surnames are given for any one in this record, simply first names and then the farm name. Must have been a really small place.

Thank you for your help. If you don't mind, I have two additional questions:
1) The first three witnesses are referred to as Svånger. Are they all Brother-in-law's or some other relation? If they are bil's, would it be to Måns or Karin?
2) I know soldiers sometimes took another surname, but could there be any situation where Måns became Sven and his son was Pähr Svensson?
(Other records seem to indicate Pähr's surname should be Svensson, but there seem to be no other Pähr's born in the correct year or adjacent years in Bredaryd. To confuse matters more, there are 2 Pähr's in Bredaryd-each seem to be Pahr Svensson- and household records show the same birth year, same wife's name and a child Sven. The defining factor is the place name where they each lived is different. I've sorted a lot out, but this birth record is the one thing that doesn't jive).

1) The word in front of the first three names is "drängen" rather than "Svånger".
2) Sorry, I don't see anyway that this could be Pähr Svensson. Soldier names, as far as I have seen, are always surnames. One idea maybe if there are other forms of the name Pähr in the parish, such as Peter, Petter, Par, Pär or Per in the parish. These are all the same name and, as such, are interchangeable.
Can you point me to the household records you are talking of? The earliest HHRs that I come across are sixty years after this birth.

He is in the early records, but with no surname. (Bredaryd, Jönköping, A1:1, 1757-1805, p. 25 and p. 79, Orrakull).
His sons' birth records (Jacob and Anders) give his surname as Svensson, but his oldest son's Sven (named appropriately) does not give a surname.

I am not able to find Jacob (b.1751) nor Anders (b.1755) in the birth records. Where did you find them?
Back to your original birth record of Måns's and Karin's son, Pähr in 1797. There is a marriage of Mån's Carlsson (from Flisby parish) and Karin Andersdotter (from Håkantorp) the date is 19 Oct 1690. That is in Bredaryd (F) C:1 (1688-1757) Page: 218. Could these be parents of your Pähr? I looked back till 1688 and didn't see any other couple with those first names. (The farm Håkansgård has the name Hamra associated with it in the Family Search Wiki page for Bredaryd.) I will look to see if there are more children with father Måns and mother Karin.

I should have mentioned in my earlier post that the dates in the Household Records do seem to be off- Jacob, Anders, and Sven's births were found in 1749 (not 1751), 1753 (not 1755) and 1743 (not 1747).

They were all at Orrakull where there seem to have been no other families living, and the difference in the birth year for Sven correlated with a death record identifying him as Sven Svensson from Orakull in 1799, age 55. Of course, the parents names are also the same so I do think they are the correct records despite the difference in years.
