"Hjernebet." is probably an abbreviation for "hjernebetændelse", which is "brain inflammation" according to an 1861 online Danish to English dictionary. "Encephalitis" is the modern term. Thank you so much, I thought it might be as such. I appreciate your input. It's sad to me that this 12 year old passed away almost 1 month after his mother lost her life to Barselcrampen the day after her stillborn son was born. Thanks again.
