I am aware of and have been in contact with 4 of my siblings who were adopted by other people. Other than asking my mom, she is 95, if there are more siblings as one of my sisters suspects is there any way to find out if this might have happened thru

birth records?

Birth records are usually changed to match the adopted name

Maybe if you can apply for info from adoption registry in the State where the adoption took place or maybe DNA you would probably have to ask your mother

Not a discussion that is easy at her age

thank you for your response. I have have my DNA done thru Ancestry but only sister I have been in touch with has matched thus far. I check it every so often so I guess that's my best bet other than asking my mom. She isn't the one who told me about my adopted siblings I found out on my own. thank you for your answer. virginia

Do you know where the other were adopted?

Maybe see if the records are open in that State

A few years ago I found a sibling that was adopted out so had to ask my mother it was not something I wanted to do

My brother asked her over the phone not exactly how I wanted it to go LOL

She did divulge she had 3 other children adopted out at birth

so far 3 of us have reunited all in our 40's at the time

    Good luck with the search

Personally I would ask your Mom before it is too late

Have you considered having your Mom's DNA tested? Downloading your results to other sites (GedMatch, My Heritage), testing on other sites (Family Tree DNA, 23&Me). There are sales around the holidays which can make it more affordable. Not everyone uses Ancestry. The more sites you are on the better chance of finding more matches. Rose

    I will just add

I think Ancestry may have a bigger database than some other test sites & might be easier to use at least for me it was

My brother did 23 & me along with his daughters the only matches they got were each other

He did Ancestry this summer & we found his B-father side of the family in the results

I agree with Rosemarie though if you can get your Mom's DNA it may be helpful when you do get a closer match

thank you Rosemarie. My mom's DNA is also on Ancestry.com but thus far it has only matched siblings I know and ancestors. The siblings adopted were done in different states. One was born in Utah but adopted in AZ. It's crazy how things went. I want to do more research before I ask my mom. Thank you for your help.

@virginia7 virginia7 I would suggest that you also add your dna to the other sites like MyHeritage, GedMatch, FTDNA etc.... I have totally different results through those sites than i do with Ancestry. Its free to load your raw dna file and free to see matches... each site of course has its own "extra" features for paying members but there's no payment required in order to see your matches.

Also if you are a member of LDS Church, you can get free premium access to MyHeritage using your FS account. :)

One does NOT have to be a member of LDS Church to access their Premium sites. You go to your local LDS Church wearing a mask, sign in, choose a computer, sign in with you free Family Search account (or open a new account), and sign into ANY of their Premium accounts. Check your local church for hours as these sites are manned by volunteer members of the church who will assist you. https://www.familysearch.org/wiki/en/Introduction_to_Family_History_Centers

Thank you @Rosemarie Coyle for sharing this info, I wasn’t aware that one could access the premium sites without being a member of the church or having a paid account That is good to know 😃

I apologize if my answer was misleading, It certainly wasn’t intentional. I was merely sharing the info that I know from my own personal experience. I only research from home so I wasn’t aware of the other option (s). Thank you 😊

Here are two different sites that one can use to find out more information about the individual states where one is seeking

    adoption records https://www.researchetcinc.com/states.html

    https://www.genesearch.com/people/adoptionsearch.html
