Good day. My name is Henry James Hill from SA and interested in researching family of my great great grandfather, John Hill, born 1822 in Kinnersley. Died 1862 Herefordshire and was married to Ann Williams, born 1824 in Byford. Can anybody assist?

    .

    Questions:

    .

Do you use the "Family Tree" part of 'FamilySearch'?'

    .

IF, you do use the "Family Tree" part of 'FamilySearch'; THEN, is your Great, Great Grandfather recorded/included in "Family Tree"?

    .

IF, your Great, Great Grandfather recorded/included in "Family Tree" of 'FamilySearch'; THEN, have you searched for his records/details in 'FamilySearch'?

    .

Even, IF, you do not use the "Family Tree" part of 'FamilySearch'; THEN, have you tried searched for your Great, Great Grandfather in 'FamilySearch'?

    .

IF, you have not; THEN, can I suggest that you do.

    .

As well as "Family Tree" of 'FamilySearch', there many other websites that you can search, such as (but, not limited to):

    .

    FreeBDM

    https://www.freebmd.org.uk/cgi/search.pl

    .

    UK_BMD

    https://www.ukbmd.org.uk/

    .

    Ancestry_com

    https://www.ancestry.com/

    .

    FindMyPast

    https://www.findmypast.com/

    .

    MyHeritage

    https://www.myheritage.com/

    .

    And, many more ...

    .

Even though he was Born prior to "Civil Registration" (1837) in "England and Wales", there is a good chance that his "Marriage:; and, "Death", are available.

    .

    Give them a go.

    .

    I hope this helps.

    .

    Brett

    .

ps: SA - the Country of 'South Africa'; or, the State of 'South Australia'

Many thanks Brett. Indeed, South Africa. That's where my grandfather 'moved' to and hence my dad and my existence here. I will gladly explore the advice given. Chances are good that I will post more questions. Is it advisable to place ad in local (Wales) newspaper to try and trace family? Kind regards. Henry Hill

    Hi Henry ,

I expect your ancestors may have also come from Wales at sometime but Kinnersley, Hereford is in England as Brett has mentioned use family search and they do have the Bishops Transcripts and other links here is your John baptism https://www.familysearch.org/search/record/results?q.givenName=john&q.surname=hill&q.birthLikePlace=kinnersley&q.birthLikeDate.from=1821&q.birthLikeDate.to=1823&f.recordCountry=England&f.recordSubcountry=England%2CHerefordshire&f.collectionId=3155913&m.defaultFacets=on&m.queryRequireDefault=on&m.facetNestCollectionInCategory=on&count=20&offset=0

and link to other information for Hereford on family search wiki https://www.familysearch.org/wiki/en/Herefordshire,_England_Online_Genealogy_Records

    Hereford https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hereford#:~:text=Hereford%20(%2F%CB%88h%C9%9Br%C9%AA,37%20km)%20northwest%20of%20Gloucester.

Many thanks Pamela and also for the 'small' corrections made. I am not familiar with the area and corrections made are appreciated (i.e Kinnersley). Any suggestions whether I should persue an ad in the paper? Kind regards. Henry Hill

Apologies. Need to be correct in my search efforts - is Hereford and Herefordshire different places. One a county and one a town?
