Where are the records for "Parafia Matki Boskiej Częstochowskiej", aka St Mary's Church", a Polish
Hi, I am researching an ancestor from Poland/Germany who was married in Chicago on 28 SEP 1897. The civil recored was marked "Parafia Matki Boskiej Częstochowskiej" and signed by Rev Casimir Rosicki, Recotor of St Mary's Church, Ashland cor 20th Str.
Howeverthis doesn't seem to mean the popular St Mary's nor the "Parafia Matki Boskiej Częstochowskiej" in Cicero.
Thanks!

Hello!
I am not sure where the records are, but I agree that the Parafia Matki Boskiej Częstochowskiej mentioned in the record likely does not refer to St. Mary's or the one in Cicero.
I found a reference to a Parafia Matki Boskiej Częstochowskiej in a Polish language newspaper from Chicago. According to the article, it was established in 1891 and had 71 families.
I didn't find anything else about it online, but I would recommend reaching out to the Polish Museum of America located in Chicago, or the Polish Genealogical Society of America. If the church records still exist, these two organizations might be able to help you locate them. You could also reach out the Chicago Historical Society - sometimes records end up with historical societies. That was the case with some records for my family in Louisa County, Virginia.
Hope this helps!

Many thanks for the quick reply. I also did a feeble search for the Rector, Casimir Rosicki, and in a 1905 book "Philanthropic, Social, and Religious Resources of Chicago" he was listed as belonging to an independent Catholic Church "Holy Cross, 3132 Auburn"... below that listing was "St Mary of Czenstochowa, 895 S Ashland". That doesn't really help me, but leave no stone unturned, right? Anyhow, I like your ideas, I will reach out to those organizations today.

Hopefully one of those organizations will have some ideas for you.
One more place you might try - Special Collections at the University of Chicago or any other universities in Chicago.
Good luck!

Also, seeing as it is an "independent" Catholic church, the Archdiocese of Chicago may be of no help, but they do have some interesting resources on their genealogy page that might be helpful. Also, you may have already done this, but be sure to check the FamilySearch Catalog for Chicago and look at all of the church record listings.
