Baptism entry for Joseph Hübner born Feb 16th 1862 in Schmottseiffen
Hello. I'm looking for the baptism entry for my Great Great Grandfather Joseph Hübner born Feb 16th 1862 in Schmottseiffen: film no. 996350.
Since I'm all the way in CA, I would greatly appreciate it if someone could look it up and screenshot it for me on their next trip to the Family History Library in Salt Lake City.
Thank you very much, Silke

@SilkeShimazu SilkeShimazu At first I was wondering if you were asking for an image of a restricted record that is only available in a Family History Center (which would have violated Church rules, and also been illegal). But as it turns out, this film is not even available at local family history centers. According to a FamilySearch Catalog search, this film is ONLY available in the huge Family History Library in Salt Lake City. No Family History Centers (the smaller local facilities scattered all over) actually have that film, and the film has apparently also not yet been among those digitized so we can see them on line.
Also, the Church discontinued sending copies of films to the local Family History Centers three years ago (September 2017).
Therefore, it appears the only way you could view that film would be to physically go to the Family History Library in Salt Lake City yourself, or have someone look that up on your behalf in that facility. The main Family History Library discontinued sending copies of films to local Family History Centers three years ago, and I don't even see any Family History Centers listed that have that particular film.
The good news is that I see four of the 12 films have already been digitized out of that collection of 12 films, but yours is among the other eight in the collection. Perhaps they're working on those other eight and hopefully they'll also soon be available on line.

Thank you for your reply. No, no illegal intentions here. It's not a restricted record.
Since I live far away from Salt Lake with no connections to anyone in the area I was just hoping that someone who does live nearby would kindly look it up for me on their next trip to the Family History Library.

Ok. I see you just edited your original. I thought you were asking that anyone near any open FHC could check it for you. Hopefully someone in the SLC area might see this and be able to help. Best wishes on it.
In case they aren't comfortable sending an actual image since the film is not available anywhere other than the FHL (Family History Library), you might also want to add in Joseph Hübner's FamilySearch Person ID (PID) number to your original post above. That way if someone at the FHL finds the image, they could directly add it on Joseph Hübner's Memories page for you, and save it in the Documents section of Memories. Then you'd be able to also view the document and print it out if you wished to, since it's your direct ancestor. By adding Joseph Hübner's PID to your post, the person helping you could immediately find him with an ID number search on FamilySearch and add the image as a memory with almost no extra effort at all.

I have used the consultations from the Family History Library several times and it was very helpful. They cannot access films, however, because the library is closed.
Have you checked for this record on archion.de? Many of the German records are digitized there. My guess is that it likely is on Archion because the film is not digitized. If I understand correctly, FamilySearch is not digitizing some German films because the owners will not allow it due to them being on the Archion site where they can charge money for access to them.

Since they have digitized some of these particular films it's possible they might yet digitize them but time will tell.

Oh, if that is the case, I wonder if I should cancel the appointment and let someone else have my spot...
No, I haven't tried archion yet. I will check it out, thanks.

I recommend that you keep the appointment. They might be able to provide you with information from the record during the appointment.

I'm also leaning toward keeping it. Thank you .

I would definitely keep your appointment, even if you can't get help with the films, because it's an opportunity to learn from the best experts on this type of research. They know so much, I have learned a lot from even just a few minutes talking to them.

The appointment was this morning and while I did not receive the desired screenshot, I did get a transcription of the record. The consultant was very friendly and helpful and I would definitely recommend this service to others.

That was so nice of them to make a transcription of the information contained in the image and send that to you. But that's what's most important - the actual data. And with the information about the record, you can document that as the source of the information even though the actual image isn't available at this time. I'm glad you kept the appointment, and also appreciate you sharing the outcome of the request.
