How do I find records/information hints from Egyptian ancestors?
My mother's side of the family is from Egypt, and aside form anecdotal evidence of my ancestry, I don't have a clue of how to start my research about Egypt. A lot of the links on FamilySearch Wiki seem to be geared either toward British immigrants/soldiers stationed in Egypt, or are links that are defunct or don't address my specific family. My mom's side of the family is Coptic. I'm hesitant to reach out to the Egyptian government or Coptic churches because I've heard that there are appalling response times for regular governmental matters, let alone receiving copies of records. Do you have any tips for approaching researching my Egyptian lineage?

Anecdotally speaking, a couple of my LDS friends from Congo and Rwanda enjoyed some success on Facebook. And don't be afraid to use Google with specific Boolean_Searches_in_the_Wiki ...unfamiliar with searching that way, go to FS blogs, and type Boolean...good stuff. And French records are loading by the millions daily especially on the French culture website called
Ler me know how else I can help. And know that a lot of Africans speak French; hence a website like filae.com may help. BTW, i was told by G.A. that soon FS will have LDS partner access to that site.
One more thing. I have found that many non-western countries ( i.e. India) insist you go to the provincial hall of records to get any legal documents.
Another helpful site is FS's collaborative effort with BYU labs: https://www.tech.churchofJesusChrist.org
Happy searching!
