Mayor de edad
Hi, I have been researching my Puerto Rican ancestry civil registrations and come across "mayor de edad" often. I know the phrase means "of age" however, what age did this mean say in the late 1800s?
Thank you

Denette,
I can't remember the exact age, but if I come across the correct answer, I'll reply again.
I remember seing a document of a daughter seeking marriage against her parent's
wishes when she had reached the legal age and could do so without their permission.
This document in particular was from 1821 and she was older than 21.
I remember when I read this noticing how the legal age then was older than today's legal age.
