How would I order the birth record of my grandfather and his sister who were born in Ruskeala, Finla
My grandfather Erkki Antti Soininen was born 6 Mar 1925 (or maybe 1924) and his sister Hilja Maria Soininen was born 27 Feb 1923. Hilja died 15 Aug 1937 age 14. Their mother was Ida Soininen. Thank you.

I am going to the National Archives today and I can check that record for you.

Wow! Thank you Heidi. I would appreciate that so much.
Hilja Maria's name might be Hilda Maria. Would it be possible to look for her death record as well? Anything that might give more information about their father. My grandfather never knew who his father was.

Yes, I can look that family and their information.

Thank you Heidi

Erkki Antti Soininen was born at 7 March 1925 in Kaalama, Ruskeala, Viipuri, Finland and christened at 28 March 1925 in Ruskeala parish. No father is mentioned in the birth record.
Hilja Maria Soininen was born at 27 Febr 1923 in Ruisselkä, Ruskeala, Viipuri, Finland and christened at 13 Apr 1923. She died at 18 Aug 1937 in Vahvajärvi No 4, Ruskeala, Viipuri, Finland and buried at 19 Aug 1937, died from lung decease.
No father mentioned in any record.
Erkki Antti is Iidanpoika (Ida's son) and Hilja Maria is Iidantytär (Ida's daughter).
There is a very good possibility about Erkki Antti's father. His mother had a wedding announcement with Andrej Sovaljeff at 14 Jun 1924. If you calculate from that to Erkki Antti's birthday at 7 March 1925, mother Iida should have been pregnant when they had they wedding announced! But then Andrej eloped and the wedding was called off.
I did not found any other information on Andrej Sovaljeff. He was not a Lutheran. He was an Orthodox or a Russian. I requested to look Orthodox records and I will go to the Archives tomorrow again (I have my own research also in there) and see if I can find Andrej.
If Andrej was a Russian, then there is no way to find any information on him.

That is so wonderful Heidi!! I feel very emotional and am amazed that you have discovered so much and am very grateful for your generosity in helping me search for my family. My father will be so happy to find out more about his father's family as Erkki's mother Ida died when he was 10 years old and he grew up with no family.
I think there is a very good chance Andrej Sovaljeff is my great grandfather. My grandfather's middle name is Antti and I suppose that may be the Finnish version of Andrej. Andrej Sovaljeff sounds like a Russian name to me. Did many Finns in Karelia have Russian names I wonder? I Googled the name Sovaljeff but couldn't find that name. Maybe his name was Savaliev? That is a Russian name.
How did you find out Andrej eloped after the wedding announcement? Was there any more information? And where did you find the wedding announcement? Is there a book of announcements? Sorry about so many questions.
I look forward to hearing whether you were able to find out more about Andrej Sovaljeff.
Thank you again, so much 😊

How much information do you have on Erkki Antti's family, his siblings and mother's family? His mother did marry at 1930 with Juho Auvinen and his mother and Juho died at 1932.
Finnish people with an Orthodox faith especially near Russian border had also Russian names. Yes, Antti is a Finnish form from Andrej and I also believe that it is a very good chance him being Erkki's father.
Andrej Soveljeff and their wedding announcement and his elope was mentioned in Rippikirja (communion book). The book of announcement is not available, most likely destroyed during the war.
Here are the sources were Erkki Antti is mentioned. I will add other family members in brackets who are also in that page.
It is not allowed to fotocopy or take a picture of those restricted records.

- Vieno Ellen Orvokki, moved to Lahti at 19.11.1947
- (they had already fled away Ruskeala during the war time but after war when it became clear that they could not return to home and Ruskeala had been given to Soviet Union, their books were moved to the parish where they had settled after war.)

I am sorry, I could not find any more information on Andrej Soveljeff (I rechecked his name)..
There were some other Soveljeff who were Orthodox and lived in Finland but for Orthodoxes who lived in Ruskela, there are records missing between years 1917-1933.
There is no reason given why he eloped.

That is so interesting that Andrej was living with the family!
Is there a date of birth for Andrej or a place of birth or where he came from? Does it show Andrej’s occupation? Also, does it say where he went?
Which one of Juho’s sisters did Erkki live with after his mother died?
I heard Ellen went to live with a foster family but I don’t know if that is correct. Did Ellen live with her grandmother? My cousin found a picture of mother’s day in Ruskeala about 1940 (which I have attached) and we think Ellen is the little girl leaning against the woman at the front, and the woman is her grandmother Anna Maria.
This is everything I know about the family:
Ida Soininen had two children Hilja Maria and Erkki Antti when she was not married. Then she married Juho Auvinen and they had a daughter Vieno Ellen Orvokki Auvinen. Then Juho and Ida died when Ellen was a baby. I heard Ida died from childbirth and Juho drank himself to death, but I don’t know if that is true.
Hilja died at the age of 14, five years after her mother died. I heard that Erkki and Ellen were taken care of by foster parents and then Ellen died in 1947 age 15, but it looks like that might not be true if she moved to Lahti in 1947.
I always wondered why Ida’s family didn’t take care of the children because she had so many brothers and sisters. I don’t really know where they all went after the war.
Juhana 12 Aug 1889-1890
Pekko 12 Feb 1891
Juhana 7 Feb 1894
Antti 16 May 1897-1928
Ida 21 Mar 1901-1932
Hanna 21 Mar 1901-1901
Hilja 6 Dec 1903-1904
Hilda 1 Jun 1905-1989
Hilma 26 Apr 1908-1961
Emma 9 Jan 1911-1987
My father Jouni was born July 1846 so Erkki probably moved to Turku to get married. My grandmother Terttu-Liisa from Mynämäki was pregnant when they married.

The photo's title is äitienpäivät Ruskealan Vahvajärvellä Ruskeala, Vahvajärvi 1939. Was Ellen living with her grandmother or aunt in Vahvajärvi in 1939?

Once again, thank you for all your help.

This is Vieno Ellen Orvokki. I don't know who the other people are though. I thought they were her foster parents, but maybe they are Aina Katri Auvinen and husband.

No, Andrej did not live with the family, he is only mentioned in that record page, no other information than name and that wedding announcement and his elope.
It seems that Erkki and Ellen lived with Aina Katri Auvinen b. 30.12.1880 and her family, at least they are in same page and no notes about other foster family.
yes, Iida died from childbirth, lapsivuodekuume and Juho died while he was drunk.
Hilja died from lung decease.
Ellen has clear marking about moving to Lahti at 1947

I am at the Archives at the moment and by the records, these other people in this record might be Juho Pekanpoika Korhonen b. 26.11.1871 in Ruskeala and his wife Aina Katri Juhontytär Auvinen b. 30.12.1880 in Ruskeala. At least they are about right age. And Ellen is on the same record page with them.

Ok Thanks for that information. Were Erkki and Ellen living with Aina Katri Auvinen in the Rippikirja 1931-1942?
That is very interesting about Ellen moving to Lahti!

Idas Siblings:
Pekka moved to Kajaani at 1920 with his wife and daughter
Juho (Juhana) b. 1894 moved to Isokyrö at 1949 with his wife
Hilda moved to Helsinki at 1926
Hilma moved to Viipuri at 1929
Emma moved away at 1930
Most likely Ellen did not live with Ida's parents because they were poor and his father is mentioned to heikkomielinen (sorry I don't have dictionary now). Ida's sisters were all ether dead or moved away, her brother's were dead, moved away or poor (Juhana). Ida's husband's family were more wealthy and father's side was most often the more important one.

So it says Soveljeff? Savelieff is a similar Russian name. Thank you for checking. I wish I could be in Finland instead of Australia 😅

yes Soveljeff is written. Savelieff is very similar because in Russian и = i, й = j and here that upper mark was often left out.
