Trying to trace my great-grandfather in Johannesburg 1900-1912
I'm trying to find out what my great-grandfather and great-grandmother did in South Africa while they lived there. They emigrated separately to SA sometime after 1891 (him) and 1901 (her) and were married in Johannesburg in 1904. My great-grandfather's profession is listed on his marriage certificate as Agent.
She left in 1906, he left sometime before 1912 and I know what he did afterwards but have failed to find her again.
I have found the marriage certificate for them and birth/christening certificates for my grandmother, but no other details of their lives.
His name is Harry Michael Hawkins and he was born in England in 1874.
Her name is Annie Elwood and she was born in Belfast, Ireland in 1880.
My grandmother's name is Daisy Hawkins, born in 1905.
Can anyone point me to any directories or gazettes for Johannesburg for the time that might give me a clue about what work they might have been doing, or when he might have left SA?
They lived in Lorentzville/Bertramstown while they were in SA, but that's all I know about their lives.
Thank you to anyone who can help!
