A friend found a record in the English Calendar of Patent Rolls from the year 1274 which gave "Richard le Blak, merchant of Rouen" permission along with others to move from Rouen to London to engage in the wool business. My yDNA is ultra-Norse, my surname
is Blake (before my G Grandfather changed the spelling to "Bleak" and I hope to find information about French records from the Norman period as well as any possible male ancestors currently living whose name is le Blak who might participate in a yDNA test at my expense. Sorry about the lack of French. My wife and I have been in the Democratic Republic of the Congo on a LDS mission where they speak French but, while we picked up a little bit, I am not anywhere near fluent. Here is a link to one blog about her work. http://kippeeb.blogspot.com/search/label/Blake You must scroll down quite a ways to see the bold name of Richard le Blak, merchant of Rouen.
