Ancestry DNA Raw Data file
Anyone know anything about this? How it works with other sites etc? how or where I can use this to my advantage? Preferably for free?

Yes, you can upload a copy to MyHeritage and use their comparison tools for folks who have DNA there. Also you can use GEDMatch, a third-party website that is all about comparing DNA and finding people who have matching portions of DNA. Both are free, although GEDMatch has a paid-version that has additional tools for comparison available. There is plenty of information about both of those sites if you do a search for them on the internet.

You can also upload for free to FamilyTreeDNA. Ancestry and 23andMe will not let you upload information to their site though.

Hey! I didn't know about FamilyTreeDNA! Thanks for that tip!

DNA is a fascinating experience. I thought when I took my DNA test that I was just checking to see why people were doing it. I figured every genealogist should say that they had submitted DNA. I am so amazed at what I have learned from mine and other family members. My research has totally changed since then.
I am no longer surprised at the amount of mysteries that can be solved with DNA, or how many surprises have shown up after DNA tests. Never force anyone that is reluctant to test, and don't test if you aren't prepared for the potential of learning about surprises within your family. I have helped many people with their search when they realize that they are biologically connected to an NPE (not parent expected.)

Do you need a paid MyHeritage account to access info?

I tried the family tree thing yesterday. I must’ve done something wrong cause it didn’t seem to have any info for me

When you do a free upload of DNA there are limits to what you can do with the results. It is still worth doing it.

Do you mean that you uploaded your DNA to FamilyTreeDNA? If so, when you upload DNA it takes a few days for the results to appear. I can't remember if they notify you when it is ready. Does anyone else remember if there is a notification?

I uploaded my raw autosomal DNA done thru Ancestry to several other sites along with my Tree....My Heritage, FTDNA. It was free a yr ago. But that might have changed. Just Google those sites to see if it is still free or if they have deals.
It gets tricky when the DNA isn't yours. Because I 1st uploaded my 1st cousins, it doesn't allow ME to be in complete control of the site. Its under HIS name with my photo( female) and shows his DNA test 1st as default. So matches get confused with who is who.

Yeah I saw that part, but I still haven’t seen anything lol... I’ll try again. I loaded to wikitree, but I’m still trying to figure that site out too 😆

Lol yeah I’m using my brothers daughters but I manage her account so I basically just added her and her dna and her tree (which is mostly people from my tree) ... I’m totally new at most of this ... but I’m learning ... slowly lol

Thank you for the info ladies! I finally got the FTDNA to work but now I haven’t a clue what to do, obviously first thing I did was search my grandfathers birth surname (LONG), which came back with 215 results. I can’t see where any of the people are from though and I can’t access their trees. I’m assuming I have to be a paid member to do this? It did give me the dna info and an email address for each person. Anyone know how to filter these results by location? Or how to see the results trees?
