Hi Folks. I am looking for some help with translations for words found on a transcription of the 1
Hi Folks. I am looking at a census record on AKVZ.de. My ancestor is enumerated in 1769 in Hafkrug. The "Beruf/Tätigkeit / Zusatz / Status" field says Fischer / - / Einlieger. He is listed in the "Hausholt Gebäude angzeign" with a family that doesn't appear to be related to him. His wife and children also appear in the same household. Am I correct in assuming that he is a fisherman and a day laborer? The Wohnstätte / Haus/ seit/ Grundbesitz says "Im Eigenkaten." Does this mean that he and his family live in a cottage on the property? The first person (who I don't believe is related) listed is a Halbhufner. Thanks in advance for your assistance.

An "Einlieger" is someone who lives on another person's property- a renter. And from the term "Eigenkaten" [= own cottage] it would seem that the family lives in a small cottage of their own, rather than in someone else's house.
A "Halbhufner" farms half a standard-size farm.
