My Great-Great Grandfather, James Polk Maish, moved from Clinton County, Indiana to Tuscon, Arizona Territories in the late 1880's to get a fresh start and to be near his brother, Frederick Maish. James arrived as a widower with two of his sons, having left behind three daughters in Indiana. James worked for Frederick on the Canoa Ranch for awhile, and also served as a Road Commissioner in Pima County. Frederick and his business partner, Thomas Driscoll, raised at one time over 10,00 head of cattle on the Ranch. Frederick also owned a large hotel in Tuscon and was elected Mayor of Tuscon for two terms.
Today, the Canoa Ranch is on the National Register of Historical
Places. One of the scenes from the movie Oklahoma was filmed on the Ranch.

My family was from Benson/St David area. A couple went down to colonies in Mexico. Really cool item: 1900 Census Line #4 Nettie J Miller was my mother's maternal grandmother. Line #11 Celia S Sabin was my mother's paternal grandmother. The census taker was Nettie's father, Francis Thornbury Dunnington Miller. Pretty cool that they lived next door to each other when they were young! After marriage, Nettie moved to California. They didn't meet again until after WWII when Cecilia and her husband and kids moved to California, too. That's when my grandparents met and fell in love!

Great story. I love Family History because it takes away just the names, dates, and places and makes me see my ancestors as real people who live real lives.😎

I hope that people will share information like this and find connections. I love it when I see people ask a question about an individual and someone else says "that was my ancestor too." I smiled about this just a few minutes ago in a different group. This is one of the things that makes FamilySearch Community such a neat place to be involved with.
