Is there a way that Family Search could work with (1) Ancestry and (2) Find A Grave so ***ALL three
We now have three name variations for the United States.
Family Search - United States
Ancestry - USA
Find A Grave - United States of America
Ancestry.com has a neat feature where an individual in a "Tree" can be compared side-by-side with that same person on Family Search. These 2 files (Family Search and Ancestry) can then be synced. Amazingly helpful!!!
HOWEVER, if the sources were obtained from ancestry.com (USA) or Find A Grave (United States of American), I need to then go to Family Search to change those country names (if the source did not originate on Family Search).
As a retired person, I work multiple hours on family history each day. This additional step really slows me down.
PLEASE work with the other website to have ONLY one variation of United States.

Short Answer: 'No', most likely NOT.

There is not much consistency in "FamilySearch" ...
.
Just as there is not much consistency in, either, "Ancestry_com"; and/or, "FindAGrave" ...
.
How would one expect such between THREE such "Websites"?...
.
And, why stop with just those three "Websites" ...
.
What about:
- FindMyPast
- MyHeritage
- Billion Graves
- ETC, Etc, etc
.
Consistent (ie. "Standard") 'Place' Names is something that we can never expect between the 'myriad' of "Websites".
.
"FamilySearch" has a 'Place' Names Database, where they try to "Standradise" such 'Place' Names.
.
The problem/issue is that us Patrons/Users cannot, in many instances, agree on WHAT we enter for a 'Place' Name; and, that is even when there is a 'Place' Name that is a "Standard" in the 'Place' Names Database in "FamilySearch".
.
The latter is just 'human nature'.
.
So, as I suggested, how would one expect such between the THREE such "Websites" that you mentioned; plus, all the other "Websites" that interact with "FamilySearch"?

My request is for the name of one COUNTRY name only. . . no cities, not counties, etc.

I venture to suggest that there is MORE than just one (as you suggest: "Ancestry.com) "Website" that "Synchronises"/"Compares" with "Family Tree" of "FamilySearch".
.
Many of the, "Websites"; and, 'Standalone' programmes (eg. "Ancestral Quest"), in the "Solutions Gallery" of "FamilySearch", are "Certified" to work with, "Family Tree" of "FamilySearch", to varying degrees.
.
Some "Synchronise", some "Compare", some just "Use", some can "Read and "Write" between, some can just "Read". Even a 'Standalone' GEDCOM File can be uploaded into "Family Tree" of "FamilySearch", which uses a "Compare" tool/process.
.
As I indicated, there are many more "Websites" than just the three that you mentioned that are used by "FamilySearch" - getting ALL such to be consistent in regard to what you ask would be an 'up hill battle'.

There is NOT even ANY consistency in regard to "Indexing" within "FamilySearch" itself, with regard to what you request.

Have you seen some the recent posts in the 'Group' of "Indexing Chat" in this "Community.FamilySearch" Forum where exactly what you are asking has been discussed.

There is NO consistency, even in "Indexing" in "FamilySearch".

Some prefer "US";
Some prefer "USA";
Some prefer "United States";
Some prefer "United States of America" (the one I like);
Some do not care ...

There is even inconsistency and differences between the various "Project Instructions", in the different "Projects", for "Indexing" records, for the "United States of America".

So, how can one expect such (as you request) between the many various "Websites".

I use and sync FamilySearch and Ancestry.com about 8 hours per day (6-7 days per week).
Don't want to debate the issue since my point of view is limited.
Just would appreciate not having to do "double work" to standardize places. Family Search uses United States.
In the past, I work diligently to standardize places in Family Search. Seems it might be a lost cause.

NO, "Standardising" the Name of a Place in the "Place Names" Database of "FamilySearch", is certainly NOT 'a lost cause'.

In fact, "Standardising" the Name of a Place, in the "Place Names" Database of "FamilySearch", is a MUST.
.
Such is what makes the "System" work better; especially, in regard to "Hinting" (ie. the "System" providing possible "Sources" that may apply to our Ancestors).
.
Never stop suggesting a new "Standard" for a locality (ie. the Name of a Place); especially, when such a "Standard" DOES NOT exist in the "Place Names" Database of "FamilySearch".

You have suggested many new "Standards" for various localities, including Cemeteries; and, as far as I was aware many of those new "Standards" have been added to the "Place Names" Database of "FamilySearch", some just take a little longer to get added to the database.

The work of the "Standards "Team" in the "Place Names" Database of "FamilySearch" is 'humongous', there are countless localities all around the World that need to be, either, added; or, corrected.

Your request is another matter entirely.

Indeed, it would be great I they would a pick a ISO standard for country names. Preferably the same ISO standard as there are multiple...
