I would appreciate some help understanding a marriage record in the Elgg Parish Register.
I have found the marriage record for my ancestors Hans Heinrich Kuper and Margaretha Bosshardt. On the URL below, it is marriage number 8 on 21 Feb 1708 (image 223). Below Hans Heinrich's name is the annotation "Nat. 5 Junii 1678" which I would think is his birth date, "Nat" being the abbreviation for the Latin Natus. However, when I look at that baptism date in this same parish (see image 48 on this microfilm) it does not appear to be for him. I looked at several examples for other people from this marriage record page, and the dates for most of them are not in this parish. Is it possible be was born in another parish, and if so, why would that parish not be given? Also, I cannot read the name of the place after Margaretha's name where she is from. Can you help me with that also? Thank you.

I've been browsing a bit and can see your problem. I don't see him on that image either. However, I think I've found the 1709 census entry for your family: https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/3:1:3Q9M-CSXW-ZNSP - household 13. Although the person's name is "Hans Ulrich Cuper", he is married to Margaretha Bosshard and have a child Hans born 19 August 1709. (There's also no marriage of a Hans Ulrich Kupper to a Margaretha Bosshard in 1708.) This record states he was age 39 in 1708. Additionally, his father's name is listed as Hans Ulrich Kupper, age 72 1/2, a widower.
There is only marriage for a Hans Ulrich Kupper in the 1600s -- Hans Ulrich Kupper, married 6 February 1670 in Elgg, to Adelheid Zuppinger. Their family in the 1688 census is found here: https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/3:1:3Q9M-CSVK-B1YK (household #20). And the baptism of Hans Heinrich Kupper is found on 5 June, but in 1670: https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/3:1:3Q9M-CSX4-4Q66-F. The marriage record states the correct date, but the wrong year.

Wow! This is great information. Thank you so very much for your time and research. I also believe that in that 1709 census they erroneously recorded Hans Heinrich's name as Hans Ulrich. They also recorded the wrong year for the birth of his son Jung Hans. I found Jung's baptism record as being baptized on 19 Aug 1708 not 1709. Most importantly this census gives me the age of his wife Margaretha as 21 years old. I found only two possibilities in surrounding parishes for her baptism and ruled this one out because of the large difference in she and Hans Heinrich's ages. So you have saved me from sealing him to the wrong Margaretha. Thanks again for your hard work.
