I was reading some of the soldiers letters and diaries ... it’s heartbreaking... then I read Confederate General? Colonial? Hillary Hebert’s (8th Alabama Infantry Regiment) response to the Union about a memorial that was erected (I admit I haven’t taken the time to research what it was or where it was and I don’t remember the year but it was many years after the war). Anyway, he (Hebert) was so moved and touched by the Union guys addition of the recognition of the “Alabama Boys” it prompted him write a heartfelt letter to the guy... and I believe they corresponded with. Each other for many years after that and possibly even met each other on one or more occasions ... anyway I was moved by Mr. Hebert’s genuine sincerity in his letter 😊
