    Translation:

    Jo[hann] Dan[iel] Salomon Mess, a schoolboy and the surviving legitimate son of the late, well-respected and honorable Johann Wilhelm Mess, a faithful and diligent school servant, died peacefully on June 11 at 9 a.m. and was buried the following day according to Christian customs. The brevity of his life spanned only 10 years, 4 months, and 3 weeks. The funeral text was the last three verses of the hymn O Haupt voll Blut (O Head Full of Blood).
