East Prussian Records
Does anyone have good sources for finding records from East Prussia? I have some ancestors who were born there in the 1880s and 1890s. We basically know the location and dates based on American immigration records, but haven't been able to find original sources from Germany. My family hired a professional genealogist 50 years ago to help with the research, but we were told at the time that all of the records were destroyed at the end of WW2. I heard recently that a lot of them actually did make it to an archive in Berlin, while others are in Russia/Poland/Lithuania, so I thought it'd be worth reopening the questions. My ancestors generally came from what is now in Kaliningrad, Russia, but they were all ethnic Germans as far as we can tell.

Many old church books from Königsberg (now Kaliningrad) are available on Archion.de, but access requires a subscription (€20 for one month):
