Translation request, please, Baptism record

Hi,

Can someone help with translating these 2 baptism records from 1815 for me, please? They are small and right next to each other.

1. I believe the first one to be my second great-granfather, Gioanni Battista Gianotti, his father should be Martino – I wasn’t able to find out if the father’s name on the record, (Martini), would translate to Martino from Latin or maybe it could be a misspelling - (bottom left page, on the 4th).

2) I’m pretty sure that this is my second great-grandfather’s sister, Maria Magdalena Reinerio, her parent’s names match perfectly. But I haven’t seen the spelling of their last name as: Reijnerio, possibly a misspelling as well? (bottom left page on the 5th).

The records are in Latin and all given names are Latinized. It is also an inflected language, which I think has been explained to you before, so the endings of nouns (including proper names) changed depending on their grammatical function in the sentence.

The first record is "Joannes Baptista f[ilius] Martini et Mariæ Christinæ Vernetti"

The nominative cases for the parents' names in Latin are Martinus (Martino) and Maria Christina (Maria Cristina). But in the sentence they are possessive nouns and take the genitive case. Martinus is a second declension noun (-us) and its genitive ending is -i. Maria Christina is a first declension noun (-a) and its genitive ending is -æ.

For Maria Magdalena, the surname has a spelling variation with two Is (a short I and a long I, which looks like a J, and I/J are interchangeable in Latin and Italian); in modern orthography it would look like Reiinerio or Reynerio. I wouldn't fret over surname spelling in 1815; surname spelling in Italian didn't become standardized until well after 1900 in many cases. You will see the same surname potentially spelled in a myriad of ways depending on the scribe and how he thinks he heard the name, as most people were illiterate and didn't know how to spell their name anyway.

Thanks for the info on that @Cousin Vinny, I appreciate it! Yeah, on Martini, I was trying find that in the Latin reference that you had sent me a few months back but wasn't able to locate Martini on there, for some reason.

And on Reinerio, I've seen it spelled, Rejnerio a lot but this was the first time that I've seen it spelled Reijnerio.

Also, I've been meaning to thank you for updating files and adding sources to my family tree in Family Search, I've seen where you've made some updates on there in the past, which I appreciate! I put all of my research in Family Tree Maker and one of these days I plan on uploading everything to Family Search. 😊

Wiktionary is actually pretty decent for Latin, including proper names and their various declinations.
