Help Finding the Home Village
I am trying to confirm the home village of my great grandfather Ignatz Karwowski in Poland/Russia.
The first document is his Russian military draft document dated 1881. The second document is a translation of it. The third document is his church marriage record to his wife Agnes Wierzbowska in 1892 from St. Adalbert's Catholic Church, Pittsburgh, PA.
In the Russian military document, the translation says he was from Brzozowo, county Grabowo. In the marriage document, it says he is from Brzozowo, county Lomzynska. There is a village of Brzozowo north of Kolno which is north of Lomza in Voivodship Podlaskie. I think this is the village he is from, but I would like to get another opinion from someone who might be more familiar with the region and the meaning of what the documents say. This includes the translation of the Russian military document. The handwriting is very difficult to read.
Another question I have is about the Russian military document. Was it required for him to register at a certain age, and therefore can I infer the year he was born?

I was able to contact by phone Bialystok and Lomza Diocese Archives and asked them about any records before 1914 from Lachowo Parish, near Kolno. Unfortunately they do not have those records and told me that Lachowo Parish church would not have them either. You may try MyHeritage, as sometimes people post from Poland trees based on the knowledge they have of their ancestors, hopefully from this Parish. You may also search in google.com ~genealogy Lachowo Karwowski
or use "ignacy Karwowski" there. Best wishes.

Please resend the copies of the two records you are referring to, as they do not show here.
I wonder if you entered the family tree of Ignatz Karwowski and Agnes Wierzbowska in ancestry.com if it was not your entry, you may be interested in more information there regarding Agnes Wierzbowska. You may access ancestry.com for free if you search for location of familysearch center on your computer and check with them.

The translation of the Military Draft Certificate appears quite accurate. Grabowo was more political district over Brzozowo, not its parish. If you look into Geneszukacz.genealodzy.pl and in Podlaskie Region select Grabowo, you will find that they indexed all birth records for Grabowo from 1693-1920, and there is no record of your Ignacy Karwowski or Karbowski, son of Mateusz and Katarzyna, born Jakob, married couple Karwowski.

I the undersigned, after publishing Marriage Banns I have the mutual consent of the contracting parties, and I have joined together in this marriage Ignatus (Ignacy in Polish) Karbowski, 32 years old, from Brzozowo, Gubernia Lomza, son of Matheus (Mateusz) and Catherina (Katarzyna), born Jekob (Jakob), and of Agnes Wierzbowska, 24 years old from Koszewo, Gubernia Plock, daughter of Nicolaus (Mikolaj) and Margaritha (Malgorzata), born Lewandowska. Witnesses: Ignatius (Ignacy) Kleczak and Joseph (Jozef) Michalski. Dated 14th November 1892.
According to Wikipedia village Brzozowo near Kolno, belonged to Lachowo Parish. Unfortunately, there are no earlier records than 1914 for Lachowo in familysearch.org, metryki.genealodzy.pl, skanoteka, metryki.genbaza.pl, or szukajwarchiwach. There is a chance that some of earlier than 1914 Lachowo Parish records were preserved in Lachowo Parish or in Lomza Diocese Archives. I will try to contact them by phone next week. But this area was badly destroyed by Russian and German armies.

Thank you for the information! I was told by szukajwarchiwach that the records for Lachowo Parish were destroyed in a fire in 1914 during WWI. It would be wonderful if you find out that copies were preserved elsewhere. I have not had any such luck finding any records. I have found the records for Russia-Poland to be difficult to find and search compared to other countries.
The Military Draft Certificate mentions Grabowo and there happens to be a Brzozowo near the town of Grabowo. However, based on your first paragraph, you say you searched there and did not find anything. Thank you for looking. I guess I can assume that the Brzozowo near Kolno is the likely village that he was from.
In the marriage record, it looks like Catherine's last name is Jekobow. Is that the same as Jakob but a feminine form? Which name should I be searching for?
Finally, with respect to Agnes Wierzbowska, I have her birth record and she was born in Lukaszewo and the birth was recorded in Ruže. The village of Koszewo is new information which I will look into. But could it be a short form for Lukaszewo or perhaps a bad spelling of it?
I will go to my local familysearch library on Monday to follow-up on your earlier comment about a family tree that might be for Karwoski/Wierzbowska. I did not create one on Ancestry.com so it will be interesting to see what I learn.
Thank you again for your help! My father started this research back in the 1980's and I have picked up the baton! Unfortunately, I have not been able to make much progress on the Polish branch of the family.

I want to add a follow-up comment and thank you to Eppich Maria. I went to Geneszukacz.genealodzy.pl and decided to do research on Agnes Wierzbowska. I used the Polish first names that you included in your response above (i.e. Mikolaj and Malgorzata) and found birth and death records for her siblings and possibly more. I am still going through the information.
I did not know the Polish equivalents of her parents first names if you had not included them, so thank you for that information. It has opened up that branch of the family tree.

Unfortunately, I did not have any luck at Ancestry.com with the existing trees there. There wasn't a match with the information I have but I might look again. I sometimes overlook something.
