Is this May or something else?
The birth records of two ancestors born in 1683 and 1684 in Alsace, who later married, cite their birth/baptism date as something like "ohngefehr ein Meÿen" which some have interpreted as May, but it isn't the way May is usually spelled in these records Maÿ/Mai/Maj. Do you agree it is May or are there other suggestions?

I'm a little unsure what kind of record these are. Birth records? In that case, the date of birth should be better known than "ohngefehr". Also the marriage, which took place more than 20 later, is noted here in the same hand.
The phrase may be "ohngefehr in Meyen/Mayen", which would indicate that the exact date of birth in the month of May is unknown.

@Ulrich Neitzel : this is indeed a strange set of church records — for the period 1660-1700, just a few birth records per year, sometimes amended with additional information added about their marriage, children or death, and sometimes the rest of the page filled with records from the mid 1700s. And some genealogist has annotated certain of the records, with short notes summarizing birthdate, marriage and death info, including the same for their spouse. I'm still not convinced it refers to May, and the ohngefehr also appears in some other records in that odd way. I wonder if the Meyen might refer to a feast day for Maria?

Based on your description of the records, I suspect that these are not the original birth records, but rather entries made at a later date (perhaps at the time of marriage or even later) when the exact date of birth was no longer known to the scribe.
I still believe that "im Mayen" most likely refers to the month of May. Note that Maien or Maienmond are old German names for that month.
