Please help me fully translating this Baptism record (top of page 68):

I think it is for Johann Sauer baptized on 10 Jun 1668 based on the Index:

10 June [1668]: The son of Jodocus Saur(ns), a baker, was baptized in Wernsdorf, the woman in childbed [i.e., the mother] is Maria; the godfather is Johann(es) Hoffman, a blacksmith in the same place.

Further question: I looked in Geogen for names Saurns and Saurn and found none. I did find a Sauer for "Saur". Is it possible the last name for Jodocus, the baker, is Sauer?

So I am a bit confused on this point… if the Godfather is Johann(es), where is the baptized son's name listed in the record.

I believe the surname is "Saur" and the "ns" on the end might be a grammatical case ending, which is why I placed the "ns" in parentheses.

It is the second record on the left-hand page dated 26 May. In this record the groom is Jodocus Saur of Wersndorf and the bride is Maria Leys of Stullendorf. In this marriage record you can see the surname is spelled "Saur".

The presumption is when the child's name is not recorded in the baptismal record he/she takes the forename of the godparent. In this case "Johann" or possibly "Johannes". Because the index states the name is "Johann" you should go with that name.

One further comment: Because this record is written in Latin, it is written in Roman script not the German script. Compare the scribe's lower-case "e" anywhere on these two pages. I don't see a similar "e" in Jodocus's surname in the baptismal record.

26 May [1653]: Jodocus Saur of Wernsdorf with the chaste virgin Maria Leys of Strullendorf celebrated their wedding.

Witnesses: Johann Hofman, blacksmith of Wernsdorf, and Georg Hofman of Rosdorf.

Bridal party attendants: Johann Saur called the Great of Wernsdorf, and Balthasar Groskopf of Mistendorf.
