Recent Editing and Indexing Issues - UPDATE
In recent months, users have experienced difficulties when newly created records appeared to be lost upon refreshing the page. Although engineers resolved this specific issue, subsequent challenges have emerged. The following NEW editing issues have been identified and documented:
1- Permissions Delay for Newly Indexed Individuals
After a new individual is indexed, permissions may not be set for up to 24 hours. During this period, users are unable to link to Record Details or attach the record using Source Linker. Additionally, these new records cannot be found using Search.
2- Delay for Newly Edited Data
Edits made to existing records become visible in the index immediately; however, they may not appear in Record Details for up to 24 hours. During this time, the updated information is not accessible via Source Linker and using the edited data as search criteria may not retrieve the updated record.
3- Issues with Newly Added Events
Occasionally, events created before permissions are set may not show in Record Details or Search Results, even if they're visible in the index; they might need to be re-added to appear when linking records or searching.
4- Indexing Reversion During Record Editing
While editing an individual record, the indexing for the entire page may unexpectedly revert to “No Access.” In certain instances, the page may display “This Image has not been Indexed”. When the index is restored, all editing of data and/or households may have reverted back to original indexing.
We kindly ask the Community to share examples of any editing issues you encounter. The broader range of user experiences provided will aid in a quicker resolution to these problems.
Any updates on these issues will be posted in this thread. Thanks so much for your patience as I take your concerns to engineers.

I have experienced all of the issues listed.

I have corrected the first name on this record and the index hasn't updated. https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:JXC7-63D?lang=en

While I've been seeing high lag between edits in the editing view and those edits showing up for the Source Linker / View Record page, last night I indexed this entire page (3 real records and a phantom fourth) through Indexing Review and none of the corrections I made are showing up even in the editor. Might be the same problem, might be a different one.

Thanks to all for your contributions. I have saved all the links and the details of your experience.

I don't know if this is related or not, but I have been correcting the indexing on this document: https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/3:1:3Q9M-C9B2-SW73-C?view=index&personArk=%2Fark%3A%2F61903%2F1%3A1%3AQLKL-D418&action=view&cc=2517051&lang=en&groupId= . All of the people listed were flagged as primary names and there were no relationships. I flagged all but Elizabeth Margaretha Roos Marais as secondary names and then added the parents, spouse and children relationships. So far so good. Then I added Jacobus E Scholts as spouse of Elizabeth Margaretha Marais Scholtz and that is when things went funky. Now Jacobus E Schotlz shows up on what seems to be a household record with Elizabeth Margaretha Roos Marais. I might have done something wrong, but I did exactly what I have done in the past that worked without this new behaviour. I also added David Marais as spouse of Margaretha Magdalena Marais Marais and that worked as I expected.

I have waited several days to update the issues with editing in order to test and verify results. Last Thursday, the ability to attach records after adding/editing was restored. We are also no longer seeing entire page indexing loss. Engineers suspect both the problem and the solution is tied to system load and ongoing operations. No permanent fix is being announced, but things are currently working.
We are aware that relationships added after creating a new persona may not carry over when permissions are set. Although it's a nuisance, these can generally be re-added and saved.
Thanks for your patience. Your continued contributions to improve our records is greatly appreciated.

While edits do seem to be flowing in a much more timely manner again, I've noticed a few that are still lost in transition.
https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/3:1:9398-KZ3D-ZD?view=index&lang=en&groupId=M9SP-4ZW shows the primary as gn:"Miguel Angel" sn:"Bladuell Ramos", and the history says I changed that on October 8. The linkable record at https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:6DX1-GDRN?lang=en still shows him as gn:"MIGUEL" sn:"ANGEL" (all caps, second given name as surname, and missing real surnames).0 -
Not sure if this is the same issue, or separate…
Last week and today, I'm still unable to add new relationships to people who are simply missing from the index.
For example, at image 41 of 67, DGS #004596049 ( https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/3:1:939X-Q19C-2?view=index&personArk=%2Fark%3A%2F61903%2F1%3A1%3A6DVS-WLVY&lang=en&groupId=M9ZV-83D ), the fourth entry on the right-hand page, for Petrona Nolasca //, has her father Juan Pedro // indexed but not her mother Silvestra Maria //. (Before I started working on this page, there was one entry for both, something like "Juan Pedro de Silvestra Maria"; at least I was able to fix that.)
I've tried both the flow Relationships, pencil icon, "Add More Information", "Parent", "Update", (start typing), "Name Not Indexed", (add data and highlights), "Save", "Save"; and the flow "Manage Indexes", "Add", etc. In the first flow, the final "Save" seems to work but then the new person still doesn't show up in the index. In the other flow, the person appears in the index not connected to any family after I "save" her but then she still doesn't appear as an option when I type-ahead while trying to add her as a relation to a primary person, and when I refresh the page she disappears.

@SerraNola - probably just me (I'm slow on the keyboard), but it also doesn't help when I am editing a complicated person page only to see other changes on the same day/time — what happens then is that I have to go back and redo my editing/making changes again on another day - no I don't have an example at the moment. Another "thing", if I create a new profile because there's so much to change, the person I create gets a new PID — and I've seen as many as 6 differing PIDs for the "same" person and thus creates even more confusion. That's why many times I don't or I hesitate to "fix" what I know to be incorrect info on FS. Can you help explain so I can understand better? Thank you and best wishes, Mary

@davidleelambert I added Silvestra Maria again and will watch to see if she "sticks". I have found it is best to follow this order when trying to add and connect a new family member: 1) Add the new person, 2) Using Manage Index, drag and drop the new person into the correct family group, 3) Using Add Information, choose the relationship, and 4) Add the new person—which will be in the list of others in that family group, to the new relationship box.
I have received a few other reports of loss of data. My update on the status of editing (in this thread) said, "No permanent fix is being announced, but things are currently working". That statement still stands.
@maryellenstevensbarnes1 I really need to see an example of the problems you are having in order to duplicate what happened.

In a series of posts over the past couple of years, I reported that editing index information in Censuses in order to fix problems was leading to the disappearance of many entries—sometimes just one or two households, and other times nearly full pages of names. This also apparently hid all of the names from searches. It was expressed at the time that nothing was actually being lost, and that all of the indexing would be restored when the bugs were worked out of the Index Editor.
I saved links to some of the pages that I corrupted by using the Index Editor, and I see now that the indexing has been restored to about half of them. However, the other half are still corrupted, and I did not save links for all of the pages that were corrupted, so there may be a bunch out there that are not searchable. Here are the links to the pages I saved that are still missing entries:

@SteveLinke We very much appreciate feedback on this issue. I haven't finished reviewing all of them, but the Fee household from the 1870 Census was missing completely except for John, the head. I added the rest of the family and hopefully they will stay.
For the two Henke households, the page from the 1911 Canada Census, and the three from the 1930 Census—All are still indexed, but restricted from view.
We continue to receive reports of record loss, which is delaying the restoration of missing indexes. After the defect is fully resolved, a re-evaluation will restore records in all affected collections. It will involve updating a large number of records so I anticipate it will take time and require patience.
Again, thank you for your report.

This one https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:XH2V-K3Y?lang=en is still missing its permissions following an edit I did in approx Nov 2023 (I reported it a while back so it may well already be on one of your lists).
