My 4th great grandfather was born in the place below, but it is in Polish I think and I'm not sure what it all means. I'm trying to locate it on a map. Thank you.

You will enjoy researching with pilot.pl = mapa.szukacz.pl Enter pilot.pl then download the map, X the advertisement on the left, go to Hotele on the right and click on Ukryj next to it to eliminate all the Hs which are hotel advertisements, then enter Jozefow in the top empty box on the right. You do not need to use Polish letters. Then select No. 10 Jozefow, to find your Jozefow near Pleszew and Chocz. there are currently 295 residents. Use circles on the right to zoom in and out of the area. If you click on the selected Jozefow on the map, then move your computer mouse without pressing on it to another place, like Chocz or Pleszew, you will see in the right lower corner distance in kilometers, divide by 3 and multiply by 2 to get this distance (to church?) in miles.

Use Poznan Project to search for marriages of your ancestors in Poznan and Bydgoszcz region. Or use basia.famula.pl to search for individuals in Poznan region. Click on More below "Obszar" in the center, to get list of parishes and civil records offices with their records accesible in szukajwarchiwach (Polish State Archives). If the box next to the name of Parish is green, it means that it was indexed. You may go up the page to "Extended Search" click on it, and enter the name of your ancestor, with span of years to be searched, and entering the name of parish or Civil Records Office, or just search. Enjoy your research.
