@denleys denleys
.
I just took a look in 'Family Tree" of "FamilySearch" ...
.
I hope that you are aware that there is one, possibly two, Other versions of a "Jonah HARRIES" from "Carmarthenshire, Wales" in the in 'Family Tree"; as well as, the one that you "Changed" the "Name" of by adding the "Title" of "mr" in 2018 - which I might add, is unnecessary; and, should be removed.
.
The one you changed:
Jonah HARRIES ... ( KC6Q-5RW )
https://www.familysearch.org/tree/person/details/KC6Q-5RW
.
The other
Jonah HARRIES ... ( L5N5-VQJ )
https://www.familysearch.org/tree/person/details/L5N5-VQJ
.
And, another possible:
Jonah HARRIES ... ( MYPC-GW3 )
https://www.familysearch.org/tree/person/details/MYPC-GW3
.
Just checking.

Hello, Denley's!
May I chime in with the following points:
1) From my musings in searches made, it appears there are no other "Jonah Harri[e]s" residing in this area of Carmarthenshire with these same names, the correct time frame. So what was found in the census is the target family.
2) as you know, by law all couples had to be married in the local ancient parish church up until July, 1837--regardless of religious affiliation.
3) Patronymics played a role up until as late as the turn of the 19th century in a few parts of Wales. Perhaps Carmarthenshire was late in breaking from this tradition and it could've had a part to play in Mary's true maiden name, re: it's quite possible that she chose at one point in her life to be called by "Phillips". But take into account the possibility that she also could have made the choice at another point in her life of following the patronymic way and chose to go by the given name of her father--which might have been "Lewis"?
4) As you likely already know, there's a marriage between a "Jonathan Harries" and a "Mary Lewis" in 1831 at Llan-llwch Chapel[ry] which lies in the parish boundary of and is attached to St Peter Carmarthen ancient parish. Further research might reveal another marriage in the parish registers of surrounding churches up to 20 miles or so...
[Note: In the 1851 census (see next page), she and Jonah were residing next door to a "William and Ann Lewis" whom were respectively aged 65 and 64--all residing in St Peter's Carmarthen, which just happens to be the mother parish of Llanllwch Chapelry (a Church of Wales chapel of ease lying within and ecclesiastically attached to that ancient parish boundary). Is this a coincidence? Further research should reveal the truth of whether there's a connection or if it's mere coincidence.]
4) This couple had difficulty having children, and apparently seem to not have had others outside of Frederick.
5) In the Family Tree at FamilySearch, there is one, "Jonah Harri[e]s" who is linked to your Mary as her spouse who supposedly was born in the year 1818 at Treleach a Bettws parish. However, this Jonah dies only 5 years later in the year 1823, thus making it an impossibility... I took the liberty to delete the relationship as Mary's spouse. You may restore if you feel a need to do so.
6) At Findmypast.co.uk, which they have indexed most of Carmarthenshire baptisms, marriages and burials, there are about four baptism entries from 1798 to 1807 who are possible 'candidates' for being your ancestral next generation. HOWEVER, none of them are for a "Jonah" or "Jonathan Harries".
7) in checking a manuscript by Bert Rawlins, a former employee at FamilySearch and world renowned Welsh expert, and author, compiled an exhaustive study for the county of Carmarthenshire (entitled: "Records-of-the-Established-Church-and-Nonconformist-Chapels-in-the-County-of-Carmarthan-Wales") in which he identified through various sources, all of the church/religious denominations of the Greater Carmarthen Town/parish proper. Here's a link to the page which discusses all those nonconformist church denominations--each of which you may need to search in order to find this elusive ancestor. Note that "Jonah" by itself is a very nonconformist given name...and it could be that prior to his marriage, Jonah could have been from a Nonconformist background. By the 1851 Religious census of Great Britain, Wales was at least 80% Nonconformist! Here's the link:
Success to you in your research endeavors on this Harries lineage.
