Hi @Dik Thurston, a search of Scotland's People produces no results for a Samuel Mackenzie, b.1827 Glasgow (including variations).

Within Lanarkshire there is a SAMUEL MCKENZIE born (or bapt) 2 April 1822, Glasgow parish to Samuel McKenzie and Hanah [sic] Hodgson.

Also: SAMUEL MCKENZIE b. 3 May 1839, Barony parish to James McKenzie and Mary Robertson.

There are a further five results across Scotland between 1820-1832. Three of whom have fathers whose names start with D.

It's important to note that registration with the Church of Scotland at the time was costly and unpopular and it was estimated "that as few as 30% of events actually occurring were being recorded for some urban parishes" - per Scotland's People. So it's possible, and even likely, that your Samuel was not registered at all, particularly if he consistently states he was born in 1827 in subsequent records.

Do you have any other information on Samuel that you can share that might help focus the search? For example, his parent's names or have you been able to locate him in census records? What is the source of birthdate and location you have?
