How far can we go back?

Hello! Genealogical research in the Indian Subcontinent is very hard because of spotty records and the fact that there are no indexed records and just a few digitized records– but I was wondering: with these problems, how far were you guys able to go back in history? I have been able to go back to my 2nd great grandparents on my maternal side from oral histories, but how far have you guys made it?
