Where is this Parish Elgarås

Anders Anderson born 21 March 1814 in Elgarås. I am unsure where I find this parish. I thought in was in Skaraborg but when I went to go find it there I could not find it. Please help me sort this out!

Other people than I can probably answer this more confidently, but wandering through google and the FamilySearch catalog, it looks like the current spelling for the place is Älgarås which is a parish located in Skaraborg.

Gordon is right. Your place is Älgarås. Ä and E are pronounced similarly, thus in previous times ä was written many times as e.

Thank you! I didn't even think to look at the Ä. I have been able to find the family and am working to connect him forward! Have a great Sabbath!

For an easy place to look over a list of parishes, use the FamilySearch Research Wiki and go to the county in question.

Do look at the entire list. As noted above, there may have been spelling changes over time. Also, sometimes what you are looking for may have been "Americanized," with English-look-alike letters substituted for the real Swedish letters. Remember the letters Å, Ä and Ö appear after Z at the very end of the alphabet.

Thanks for the reminder. I am really starting to see more of those differences working in the 1700's and early 1800's.

I have now followed Anders Andersson to where his first wife dies. I am trying to figure out what happens to the family at that point. It looks like Anders moves to Stockholm but I don't see him in the move out book. Several of his children have a note that I don't understand. Please help me clarify.

Anders Andersson got a certificate to Stockholm. Do you know where his second wife is from? Because this certificate could be for his marriage.

Have you looked from the next book? He might be there with his new wife.

Do you mean the adm mentioned as a note on the children's line? adm (or just a means they got confirmation.

Thanks for the suggestion of looking in the next book. On Family Search Undenäs and Halna are in the same book but in 1856 Halna is now listed as a separate parish. I did find him there. I haven't made the last connection though.
