Translation Request - Birth Record - Pawel Wilk - notations?
Please help with the translation of this birth record. I am not certain what the notation added to the left of the name signifies. Thank you. I appreciate it. Mattie

Birth record no. 1, Lubenia Roman-Catholic Parish, house no. 48, of Paulus (Paweł in Polish) Wilk, birth 8th January 1872, baptism 9th January 1872, legitimate son of father: Michael (Michał in Polish) Wilk, a farmer, legitimate son of Paulus (Paweł in Polish) Wilk, and of Agnes (Agnieszka in Polish) born Cupryś, and of mother: Catharina (Katarzyna in Polish) Kotowicz, legitimate daughter of Michael (Michał in Polish) Kotowicz, and Ursula (Urszula in Polish), daughter of Wilk, her father. Godparents: Josephus (Jozef in Polish) Grzebyk, a farmer, and Marianna, wife of Paulus (Paweł in Polish) Czekaj, a farmer.
- Paulusis in Latin in first case, son of Pauli is Genitive, equal to “of Paulus”. Translating we would use the first case of the name, Paulus.
- father - It gets confusing with the list of ancestors; in the headings it is listed as Father and the next column is titled as Mother. It helps to add in translation father and then mother to identify the parents of the newborn.
- Agnes is translated asAgnieszka indictionary of Polish first names, but I agree that occasionally Agnieszka is written as Agata.
- Kotowicz - as itis written in Polish
- Ursula (Urszula), her (patre) father was Wilk. Without “her father” it could be assumed that she was an illegitimate daughter of mother, whose surname was Wilk.
- Cross identifying the death of Paulus (Paweł)
- In margin it is written in Polish: “w metrykach smierci jest Piotr 873 7/9”. It means in English that Paulus (Paweł) Wilk in his death record was written erroneously as Peter (Piotr in Polish), it should be that Paulus (Paweł) Wilk died on 7th September 1873.
Mattie, you are doing great with Polish and Latin, please consider the above comments as helpful hints.

This is a confusing record! The clarifications of who is who helps a great deal. Thank you for sorting it out. I realize from the notation that this cannot be my ancestor if he died in one year. Thank you for helping to make sense of it. I appreciate it. Mattie
