Please, always mention the parish - in this case fortunately the village of Unterschlatt is mentioned in the record, so I knew it would be Schlatt. Also an exact reference is useful (there are quite a few "family registers" of different kinds for Schlatt, and I first had to find out which one) to be able to access the book and scroll: this often helps to identify names with confidence - in this case the register contains a name index - where the mothers's name (Asper) was easier to decipher. And - if freely accessible like here (https://suche.staatsarchiv.djiktzh.ch/detail.aspx?id=313471) - quoting the URL is also helpful.

    Cop(ulatio) 1859. 1. Maerz

    Nat(us/a) ... Bapt(izatus/a) ... Conf(irmatio) …. Unterschlatt

    1828.15.Feb … 8. Maerz … 1845 … Wilhelm Büchi, Jakob's & der M(aria) Magdal(ena) Kirchhofer, gestorben den 7. April 1870 in Zürich.

    1833.4.Sept ... 21.Sept ... 1850 ... Elisa Asper von Wollishofen, Heinrich's & der Anna Nägeli, gestorben den 8. Juli 1914 in Zürich.

    Kinder:

    1859.27.May ... 2.Juli ... Wilhelm Robert, [...??...] getraut den 20. März 1888 mit Hurter Fanny von Schaffhausen

    1860.2.Oct ... 27.Oct ... Elisa Fanny, gestorben den 23. August 1878 in Zürich

    1862.23.Maerz ... 12.Apr ... Maria Leonie, gestorben den 28. Juni 1879 in Zürich

You find a baptismal entry for Wilhelm Büchi on https://suche.staatsarchiv.djiktzh.ch/detail.aspx?id=313456 (pdf page 148): the parents lived in Zürich and Wilhelm was baptised there (which church is not stated).

You find a baptismal entry for Anna Elisa Asper in Wollishofen - also baptised in Zürich (which church is not stated). Wollishofen then was not part of the city of Zürich (is today).

In the meantime I have summarized both brothers' plus their parents' family sheets on Geneal-Forum. The topic starts with a previous discussion on Hans Heinrich Büchi (born 1673) with many descendants' lines in Germany.

Thank you for the guidance of how to format the help request and provide the correct information. I had just seen in the announcements at the top to include translation request, so didn't want to do it wrong. Sorry I still did. I'll try my best going forward, but am very unfamiliar with Switzerland geography and parishes.

Thank you for the transcription and additional information. You worked hard to do this. It has helped me a lot in my research. I appreciate it.

You are addressing several issues - let me try to discuss them separately:

First: all communication platforms have "habits" which are difficult to describe in rules (which hardly anyone reads anyway) - one just has to get accomplished to them. Please, don't consider my comments as criticism - I am trying to help … both you, and volunteers here on the board (by getting more useful info about a specific request).

Topic title: I know that admin recommends to include "Translation Request" - which IMHO is completely useless. This board has been set up and is mainly used as transcription/translation help desk - to include this in the topic title does not communicate any useful information. Consequence instead (at least in the Germany group) is that a majority of topics are just titled "Translation Request" ☹. In the Switzerland group, where I am active, I am trying to foster actual genealogical discussions following transcription requests - and for this meaningful topic titles are helpful.

Source reference (parish): you don't have to be familiar with Swiss geography or structures of parishes. I assume you got the screenshots from familysearch - each film has as one of the first frames a film title - including the parish - that's what I meant 😉.

Type of record: this is more difficult as familysearch often gives misleading or even incorrect specifications. In the present case the catalogue lists "Haushaltsrodel" (which is a different type of record !) - whilst the "official" specification (by the State Archive) is "Bürger-Familienregister" (on the book cover) - todays specification for what on the book title page is specified as "Gemeindrodel".

    Best regards

This is very helpful. Thank you for taking the time to explain and training me on some genealogy formatting.

Question for you regarding this Büchi family. On the sheets on Geneal-Forum, it states that Jacob Büchi is an illegitimate soon of Henrich and Verena. I don't see them listed in the index of the same record book we found the other family groupings. Do you have suggestions on where I could go to find more information about his parents? Because he's still listed as illegitimate, is it likely his parents never got married?

The summary on Geneal-Forum is based on the same Bürger-Familienregister as your two brothers (page 209 / pdf 111): Jakob was 30 years old when this register was compiled in 1830. Whether the writer just relied on the baptismal entry (link on Jakob Büchi oo 1823 Maria Madgalena Kirchhofer) or checked for a subsequent marriage I wouldn't know. As you write - there is no sheet for Heinrich (the father) - and we don't know where he lived: if the system had worked as supposed, a marriage anywhere should have been reported to Schlatt - but like in such cases it may not have worked in this instance. Unfortunately the Zürich marriage database (all the canton) stops in 1800 - so if he got married after 1800 it will not be included. There are 2 "Haushaltungsrodel" - a quick look didn't reveal anything relevant. Right now I have no good idea ☹. I have added a few questions in the forum. I recommend you register (free of charge and without obligation) and "subscribe" to the topic - you would then be informed automatically about future posts to this topic.

Who amongst your ancestors emigrated - a Büchi, or from a daughter line? If Büchi, it would be nice if you'd post some info on this line. The forum is tri-lingual - so English is fine.

My ancestry comes from Johann Martin Oechslin and his first wife Johanna Behr. I wanted to still work on the other wives' lines to see what we could discover. I have no additional information to the Buchi line then what you have provided me.

    Thank you!
