can you tell me how to see a copy of a death certificate or notice from 1989.

I have a cemetery records for A L H Drysdale, buried in Johannesburg .

I want to check that this is indeed Alistair Lancelot Hardie Drysdale, who was born in the Isle of man and was living in England in 1979.

Any help would be much appreciated.

You wont view a 1989 estate or dn online. Pretoria archives only house records up to 1976. Records after that are at the masters office which is a dogs breakfast with no organised filing whatsoever, and no hope of retrieving it unless you go through lawyers, who also seldom have any joy. That said this person does have the same names you mentioned, born 20 sep 1942 as per his estate number 3961/89

Thank you, Gary. I have now written to the masters office, but received no reply, which fits in with what you say.

In the cemetery record, it says that the burial was paid for by M A Drysdale, 1, Stanford Rd, Kibler Park.

I wonder how I can pursue that line of enquiry. I can not find an MA Drysdale on Family Search. Are the telephone books of Johannesburg available anywhere? or can you think of another way to trace this person?

    Many thanks in adavance.

Sorry, Gary, I also meant to ask, how did you seet the actual names against the estate number?

    Thank you

Gary's reply has just appeared! Thank you very much Gary.

What is the gazette and where do i find it to search it for other Drysdale names?

I especially would like to know more about Margaret Ann and find out her relationship with Alistair.

I look forward to hearing from you,

    Judith

Thanks again. The ID number told me that Alistair had permanent residency.

Is there any way to tell if Margaret Anne Drysdale was his wife or another relative?

Since they both had 13 digit ids, they "should" exist on home affairs records. Try ordering his death certificate from HA, or if you are out of the country, through your SA high commission office

    Thank you again Gary.

I wrote to the SA High Commissioner's Office in London over 3 weeks ago and received no reply.

    I'll try again.

Another email and this afternoon I rang the London High Commissioner's Office 3 times, but no reply.

Do you know if there is a Family Search contact in Johannesburg, or a family History Group who I could contact?
