Wales 1662 Will -Words before Names I cannot Understand
Hi, I am new to this group but have been tracing family Welsh history for several years. I am working on an important will from 1662 and there are words I am not familiar right before the names of those being heirs. Can you help me. 1. Right after Thomas my ??? 2. Right before Margarett ??? Right before Richard - looks like morphon, but is that a son, a nephew??? Thank You

Hi @Steven1947 I believe the second half of the word after Thomas is "Son" the first letter of the first part of the word has faded, so its a bit hard to make out but it could be an "F" or an "ST". I think "ST" is more likely. It's possible that the word is "Stepson" with a very short leg on the p. "Stepdaughter" also appears at the bottom of the third image and shares similarities.
This follows with the word before Margaret, which I believe is "Sister". you'll see the middle "st" looks very similar to what I suggest is an "st" in the word before Thomas. The "S" in both cases is written similarly elsewhere in the images and I have found going back this far that "S" doesn't always appear as we scribe it in modern times.
And yes, I think you'll find that Richard is the "Nephew" again, short leg on the the '"p". I think the down stroke on the front of the "n" is just a flourish and the "w" differs from nearby "m's" and "n's". Richard's surname being Gibbon is another indicated of those relationships.
