Hi,

I am looking for some help with my Norwegian heritage. As my Norwegian is non-existant, it is rather difficult to decipher everything. Any help from a clever detective would therefore be very much appreciated!

Many, many thanks!

I am looking specifically for the parents and grandparents of Hans Pet(t)er Antonsen (Sletten) (°26/09/1865, Ullensaker (Nordby) - † probably 06/11/1918, Antwerp (Belgium)). He married Cornelia Frederica (le Sage) de Fontenay (descendant of French-Danish nobility).

In his batismal record (29/10/1865, Ullensaker, Akershus)) Anton Julius Hansen & Marie Halvorsdatter seem to be mentioned as his father and mother?

Furthermore, it seems his father left him and his mother with the family of David Davidsen and paid for his upbringing (source 1 and source 2)?

Documents in Antwerp also mention the names of Anton Julius Hansen & Marie Halvorsdatter, and state that Hans Peter arrived there in 1887 as a seaman, where he married on 26/03/1892.

1. Anton Julius Hansen

Could anybody confirm whether he was born in 1841, Kristiania or in 1834 (source 1 and source 2)? (Or even another date?) Which seems the most likely? And where was he born?

Can we find out the name of his parents?

2. Marie Halvorsdatter (Nordby?)

I think I read on the baptismal record of Hans that Anton lived in lejermål with Marie. Does this mean there is no marriage certificate? If so, is there a way to find out which Marie Halvorsdatter this is?

As she is said to be 28 years old in 1865 and born in Ullensaker, she is perhaps the Marie Halvorsdatter born on 14/08/1838 in Hitlon, Ullensaker or is it more likely that she is the Berthe Marie Halvorsdatter Dahlseie born on 14/06/1838 in Ullensaker?

Is this here baptismal record and if so, do I understand correctly that she is part of twins?

Who are here father and mother? Where can I find more information about them?

My Norwegian is also limited (though I have good Swedish skills). I can confirm some of your assumptions.

The baptismal record states that Hans Petter is illegitimate (uægte), so the parents were not married. The mother is the maid Marie Halvorsdatter Nordbye and the stated (alledged) father is the bachelor and "contorist" Anton Julius Hansen in Christiania (Oslo). For both it is the first lejermaal, i.e., the first child out of wedlock.

The census 1865 shows both Marie and her son Hans Petter living with the family of David Davidsen; in 1875 only Hans Petter (then 10 years old) is still there, listed a foster son, paid for by his father.

Regarding the parents, it will not be easy to identify them unequivocally without additional information. At least the name Anton Julius does not seem to be very common.

Anton Julius Hansen born in 1834 in Christiania is listed in the 1885 census as a shoemaker with his family, his wife Ingeborg (b.1823) and a daughter Alvilde (b. 1860). So he was probably already married when Hans Petter was born in 1865.

The birth/baptism record for Anton Julius Hansen born 24 April 1841 is here: https://media.digitalarkivet.no/view/423/49His parents are Hans Anonsen and Ane Nilsdatter in Slangsvold in Råde parish.
Anton Julius married Ellen Marie Amundsdatter (b. 1841) on 17 April 1866. So he MAY well be the father of Hans Petter.https://media.digitalarkivet.no/view/5771/260
