    Translated from Polish:

Birth Record, Lechlin (near Wągrowiec) Parish, Priest acting as the Officer of Civil Records Office, of Michał Smarzcz, born in Wiatrowo on the 3rd September 1813, birth reported on the 12th September 1813, son of Mikołaj Smarzcz, 26 years old, and of his wife (no name given). Witnesses: Piotr Stachowiak, a farmer, 55 years old, and Michał Łukasiewicz, an organ player for Lechlin Church, 46 years old.

You may search for other children of Mikolaj Smarzcz, Lechlin Parish, Wiatrowo village, and maybe there would be listed the name of mother, or maybe earlier there is their marriage. I could not find it in Poznan Project or basia.famula.pl - extended search - or in Geneszukacz.genealodzy.pl

It is possible also that the name could be misspelled as Smaszcz as they did not have then written IDs and pronunciation is similar. But it is an unique name and in 1998 there were 4 persons in about 38 million Polish people with this surname, 3 in Kalisz and 1 in Poznan (acc. to herby.com.pl/indexslo.html)

Thanks Maria. I will do more research. Yes, the name is a bit uncommon. My maiden name ended up as SMORCH, but have found Smarsz, Smarcz, Smordz, Smarszcz, Smarsh, Smarch!

    I appreciate you!
