While in Ancestry.com or RootsMagic I can't see a person who is in FamilySearch.

I tried to copy David Friesen from  FamilySearch to my ancestry.com tree, but it didn't see him. I added him manually and then tried to link him using his FamilySearch ID number G6T1-HBB. I got the message, “No matches for G6T1-HBB have been found on FamilySearch”. I can't see him using RootsMagic either. What is wrong here?

    Thought he might be living, but I can see him and he clearly isn't. Are other profiles working normally? I can try RootsMagic later.

    Family Tree Maker also says

    image.png

    A manual Find in the FS tree takes quite a while to resolve and display. There may be a glitch in that profile.

    Working from his father's profile, L7NQ-KG6, FTM finds him, but a download of all descendants only brings over daughter Irene with no sign of David.

    Edit to add - I then backed up to his maternal grandfather L7NQ-W7N. A download of all his descendants also omits David. There must be something blocking that profile.

    If we don't get a resolution in the Community does it automatically get escalated to the software technicians?

    @Dick Moyer Not automatically escalated, but if a mod or staff member does not weigh in, you/we can tag a mod to make sure the issue is escalated.

    All the APIs I have tried on him work normally.

    But: in his Person JSON there is a setting

    "visibleToAll" : false

    This is

    "visibleToAll" : true

    for every profile in my analysis database, and for David's sister, but not for him.

    There is also

    "visibleToAllWhenUsingFamilySearchApps" : true

    in his JSON (and everyone else's), which presumably explains why we can see him fine from the FS website and mobile app.

    I guess the "visibleToAll" : false may be the issue, though how it got like that who knows.

    @SerraNola can you help with this at all please?

    David is not the only one with this problem. For example I was able to find David's wife Helena but of course I could not add her to David. So I found Helena's mother Anna in FamilySearch and added Helena as a daughter. Then I was able to add Helena to David as his wife. But Helena's father has the same problem as David. And there others.

    I can't see Helena's father on her profile, sorry (I can see her mother Anna). If you could give me Helena's father's PID I could check him.

    His name is Isaac Bergen G9L9-Z3P. If you go to Anna's page you will see him.

    Same settings as for David,

    "visibleToAll" : false,
    "visibleToAllWhenUsingFamilySearchApps" : true

    This stuff is documented here https://www.familysearch.org/en/developers/docs/api/types/json_PersonInfo as part of the gedcomx PersonInfo standard, but I can find no reference to how it is used in practice, or who chooses how it's set.

    The visibleToAll setting appears to have been introduced to the standard only in 2022, which may perhaps explain the lack of clarity in the 3rd party products.

    Do we know the status of my problem? Was it given to the FamilySearch technicians? Has it been given a case number? I first reported this issue on April 15th.

    @Dick Moyer Thank you for contacting FamilySearch. Privacy regulations vary across the world. FamilySearch adheres to existing legal requirements, which are a factor in this situation.

    I learned something new about this problem today. I was working on Elisabeth Klassen (P3ZX-FB9) in my ancestry.com tree. I added and researched her husband, Johann Isaak. I copied him to FamilySearch, but he was not attached to anybody. I had to manually add him to Elizabeth as her husband using his ID number. The same thing happened when I copied their four children to FamilySearch. It seems that something happens to a name if it does not get connected to its family in  FamilySearch that prevents it from being seen from RootsMagic. It has happened to me five times in a row this morning.
