The Importance of Security at FamilySearch

At FamilySearch, the security of our users' personal information is our top priority. In an increasingly digital world, safeguarding sensitive data is crucial.

Starting in 2023, FamilySearch enabled users to sign in with highly secure identity providers (IdPs) such as Google, Apple, Facebook, and The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Using one of these IdPs ensures that users have access to robust and reliable authentication methods.

In addition to enabling users to sign in with an IdP, FamilySearch has announced the release of multi-factor authentication (MFA). This feature is for users who still prefer to create an account and log in with a username and password. The new feature is part of our ongoing commitment to ensuring the highest level of security for our users.

MFA adds an extra layer of protection, making it significantly harder for unauthorized individuals to access traditional accounts. By enabling users to verify their identity through multiple methods, we can better protect users against potential security threats.
