My CET is for the history of a whole county in Virginia. Many in this area only recently got good internet access, or they didn't like to try new technical things for family history. However, seeing the tree and what we can do with it, about 10 people in the last 3 weeks asked me how to start a FamilySearch account. Yesterday, I showed a church historian the tree. She created a FamilySearch account, and asked me how to to search for records. I showed her how to use full text search to help with the history she was writing. She found the deed to the church. The staff heard her excitement & came to see what happened. They asked what the cost was, were amazed it was free, & how to start FamilySearch accounts. They'd been looking for several years for their history & records starting in the 1830's. They knew something existed, but the religious archives couldn't find it. I showed them how to find their church records, several hundred pages that survived a time period of catastrophic record loss in the VA fires during the civil war. I told them we'll add the people from the church history to the tree & attach these records. They told me about other local churches they partnered with who would want to see this community tree & and how to find records. I just wanted to share a little excitement the community is feeling, and how it's helping us connect and find history that's been lost. Thank you tech support and engineers!
