Attempting to Research a French Citizen from New Caledonia during WWII
Hello, I took a brief glance around the numerous discussions, but did not initially see anything related to this. So, I hope no one minds me asking to get pointed in the right direction. I am attempting to research my aunt, her name was Michelle M Laborde Williams. My uncle met her during WWII, and married her, and brought her home to the states. She was French, but it was always said that she was from New Caledonia. BUT I have zero primary sources that document any of that. It has all been though "family knowledge". She unfortunately passed a few years ago (at 98 years old). I just have no idea where to even start. I've attempted a few searches, but not really getting any results. I realize her name probably would have been spelled as "Michèle" especially in any French documentation. I think there could also be variations of the surname, "Laborde" or "La Borde" or maybe even "Borde".
