Looking for birth record for my great-grandfather Giacomo Teodoro Carzoli
Greetings! My great-grandfather was born in Piandelagotti, Frassinoro, Modena, Emilia-Reggiana, Italy on 16 Mar 1862. I am unable to access online records from about 1813-1866 in this region. Any tips on how to access this birth record online, please? (I have already tried FamilySearch, but the digitized records for this time period appear to be available only to LDS Church members; I have also scoured Antenati Culturali. Other names for my great-grandfather appear to have been Teodoro, Cadoro, or Codoro). Thanks much in advance.

Hi @Daniela2502
When searches like this are fruitless, sometimes the best place to start is by finding his marriage. Do you have any idea whom Giacomo… married? DId he marry in italy? Do you know the name of his wife?
Tell me the name and birth year (and location) for his first child if you are unsure of marriage details.
Marriage records tend to have the most accurate ages and, sometimes, yield much more than that.
There are plenty of records - we just need to use marriages to zero in on them.
I saw your other questions - sadly the year that had a death of a Domenico Carzoli is 1865, and that year's detailed records are missing. But, let's see what we can do.

Giacomo Teodoro Carzoli, born 16 March 1862:

As you can see on the Historical Atlas of Italy website ( http://dati.san.beniculturali.it/asi/local/detail.html?UA04358 ) this village would not fall under the Frassinoro municipality until 1870, that's why you could not find him there.2 -
Greetings @SantaNinfa,
You are PHENOMENAL! THANK YOU!
Here is what I had for Giacomo Teodoro Carzoli: I had located the Marriage Allegati bundle, which included an extract of the birth register (among a myriad of other valuable documents). I was looking for the actual atto di nascita if at all possible, which is what you provided for me above! Again, many, many thanks, especially because you have also now introduced me to the Historical Atlas of Italy website, which I have never consulted! I have included it in my notes for future reference. Anyway, in the extract of the birth record, it did say that the birth was declared in the "parrocchia di Piandelagotti, Comune Pievepelago." That is very interesting because in other documents, the comune is Frassinoro. That is such an important observation! Again, THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU!
So, I now have the birth, marriage, and death records for this great-grandfather of mine. I also have the birth, marriage, and death records for his wife, Maria Domenica Fontanini—plus the names of some of the fathers and mothers of these great-grandparents. I would love to identify siblings for both of these important people in our ancestry, but for now, I plan to move on to locating vital documents for Giacomo Teodoro Carzoli's and Maria Domenica Fontanini's predecessors.
I cannot thank you enough!

Thank you, however all credit should go to @Pierluigi_O who posted the above image and related links. I believe other records can be found there in that comune located here: https://antenati.cultura.gov.it/search-registry/?localita=Pievepelago

Hi, @SantaNinfa ! Yes, thank you for your gentle correction. It was, indeed, Pierluigi_O who posted that birth record for me as well as the URL for the Historical Atlas of Italy. I must have read too quickly/incorrectly/whatever, but I will certainly thank Pierluigi_O right away.
Nevertheless, I am so grateful for your prompt response and willingness to help with my search "dilemma." I have just joined this Group a few days ago, but I am already so, so impressed with its potential!
Thank you,
Daniela

Hi, @Pierluigi_O,
I cannot thank you enough for locating and posting that birth record for my great-grandfather Giacomo Teodoro Carzoli! That was so very kind of you, and this record now completes the BIG THREE data points for my great-grandfather—for now. I did not know about the Historical Atlas of Italy and how helpful it could be for my research. I had noticed in the declaration of birth extract located among the Allegati Matrimoni that somehow Piandelagotti was named under the jurisdiction of the Comune di Pievepelago, but I just assumed that Pievepelago is also the name of a village and that villages in that area, such as Fontanaluccia, Pievepelago,Riccovolto, Pietravolta, and Piandelagotti were all part of the Comune of Frassinoro. Cardinal Rule #1, I should know, is to check my assumptions—but, unfortunately, I failed this time. Thank you for calling this to my attention. I will now look into my great-great granparents—from the same area in Emilia-Reggiana and see if I can locate their records in the early-to-mid 1800s. Question for you: Does that URL for the Historical Atlas of Italy work for you? I have tried to access the site, but have not been successful. Perhaps the server is located in Italy and is shut down at about 9:00 P.M. Central Time in the U.S. It would be about 3 or 4 A.M. in Italy, I believe…. Thoughts?
All the best,
Daniela
